Heartbroken girlfriend of Olympian who just admitted to cheating on her on live TV speaks out

The Norwegian biathlete made the emotional admission after winning a bronze medal

Norwegian Olympian Sturla Holm Lægreid shocked the world when he revealed he cheated on his girlfriend after winning a bronze Olympic medal - and now she has responded.

For those who missed it, in a moment that's since gone viral, the biathelete left everyone surprised yesterday (10 February) when he used his post-race interview to apologise and admit his illicit mistake.

Lægreid bagged the bronze medal in the men's 20km Individual race in the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, and was seemingly overcome with emotion afterwards.

In a dramatic declaration of love, he got emotional as he told everyone that he had been unfaithful to his girlfriend of six months, before admitting that he 'only has eyes for her' and 'wishes' he could 'share it with her'.

Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster NRK after his sporting event, he confessed: "There's someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today.

"Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. And three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her."

Tearing up, he continued: "I had a gold medal in my life... I only have eyes for her. I don't know what I want to achieve by saying this... I wish I could share it with her."

In a press conference afterwards, the Olympic athlete said: "Because I am already hated by her, and I hope that maybe it can make her realise how much I love her."

The sportsman revealed that he had planned to go public about his infidelity the night before his race, explaining: "'Last night I had a kind of revelation that I should drop this bomb... Then we'll see what happens. I have nothing to lose.'

He went on to tell Norwegian newspaper VG: "My only way to solve it is to tell everything and put everything on the table, and hope that she can still love me. I've done that for her, and now for the whole world."

He also told the publication that the infidelity happened three months ago, but he only told her last week, which ended their relationship.

However, his public statement may not have had the desired effect as Lægreid's girlfriend, who wants to remain anonymous, came forward to VG with a message of her own.

She told the publication: "Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world, it's hard to forgive.

"I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this."

The mystery woman added that she wanted to express gratitude 'to my family and friends who have embraced me and supported me during this time. Also to everyone else who has thought of me and sympathised, without knowing who I am'.

Shortly after the comments were released, the Olympian responded with a follow-up statement, in which he said: "I deeply regret that I brought up this personal story on what was a joyous day for Norwegian biathlon. I am not quite myself today, and I am not thinking clearly."

Reacting to the whole divisive ordeal, one X user penned: "I actually feel bad for him, but my god… this was not the moment or the place."

While a second added: "Give the dude some props....takes some pretty big stones to do what he did. Let's see you confess the biggest mistake of your life on the tele."

And a third joked: "Bro thinks he’s in a Netflix rom-com. Sir, this is a Biathlon. Just put the skis away."
