Prince Louis was offered his first ever royal role this week at the ripe young age of seven - and it was not really what anyone was expecting.

However, despite the job being tailored to his own interests, the youngest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton was forced to turn down the opportunity.

As we say, Louis is the youngest at age seven, and he's brother to Princess Charlotte, 10, and the Prince and Princess of Wales' eldest, Prince George.

The trio have respectively been along to a number of different public appearances with the royal family, including Wimbledon matches, England football games, VE day celebrations, and even King Charles III coronation.

However, they're yet to take on any official roles and responsibilities as they're still just young children who are learning the way of royal life.

The role we're talking about would have entailed Louis becoming a patron of something, following in his parents footsteps who have taken on multiple patronages.

Kate is patron of a slew of different charities, mental health, sports, and even national institutions like museums.

Meanwhile, William boasts a similarly impressive list, with some of his most notable patronages being for Tusk Trust, Centrepoint, The Passage, Wales Air Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance Charity.

So, what is the honour little Prince Louis has been offered?

Well, the youngster excitingly got offered a role as patron of the World Conker Championships - yes, really.

The seven-year-old was offered the job after organisers of the event heard about Louis' habit of stashing conkers around Kensington Palace, which Kate first spoke about during a visit from the US president last month.

Kate and American First Lady Melania Trump hosted a group of Squirrel Scouts as they completed nature activities to earn Go Wild badges at Windsor Castle last month during a joint engagement.

While chatting to Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, when the Princess of Wales revealed Louis' unusual new passion.

She revealed that he has an obsession with collecting conkers, which she finds scattered all over their home.

"We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed - conkers everywhere!" Kate joked, before adding that Louis even puts the conkers in his toy trucks and plays with them.

However, as we say, despite the role being seemingly perfect, Kate and William opted to decline.

The association wrote to the royal couple to tell them about an opportunity for Louis to be patron.

However, the Telegraph reported that his parents turned down the offer as he’s not a working member of the royal family and he's still quite a few years away from starting work.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: "We really appreciate the invite but currently Prince Louis is 'conker-trating' on his studies."

For those unfamiliar, the World Conker Championships sees participants go head-to-head using conkers threaded onto a string to try and smash their opponent’s nut.

Some 256 people from nine different countries, including Japan, entered this year’s competition, which was held in Peterborough earlier this month.
