Meghan Markle faces major privacy leak from new school WhatsApp group

Meghan Markle's phone number has reportedly been leaked after she joined a school WhatsApp group chat for parents.

The Duchess of Sussex recently relocated to the UK with her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, but after just two days at their new school, the couple's children had to be moved amid security concerns.

A spokesperson for the couple said: "The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family's security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements.

"The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."

However, it has now emerged that a screenshot from a parents’ school group chat that Meghan was believed to be a part of has been shared with the press.

The Sun has published what is thought to be a screenshot from the group, appearing to show the royal mother-of-two being welcomed into the group chat by the other parents.

“Welcome to Meghan who has Archie joining tomo," [sic] one parent wrote, while another sent a message saying "welcome." A reply believed to be from Meghan reads: “Hi moms! Thanks for the warm welcome. So happy to be a part of this community xx”

The Sussexes confirmed plans to return to the UK six years after stepping back as senior working royals and relocating to the US.

Sky News reported that there was heavy traffic on the school run, and that the distance between their residence and the school put extra pressure on their security team.

The school run debacle comes amid the Sussexes’ ongoing concerns surrounding security arrangements in the UK.

Prince Harry has argued for years that his family requires taxpayer-funded protection when in the UK - something which was taken away when he stepped down as a senior working royal in 2020.

He told the BBC last year that he ‘can’t see a world’ in which he would bring Meghan and his children to the UK without police protection.

A meeting was reportedly held last week between the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), the official body responsible for making decisions about royal security.

A recent threat assessment was conducted by the Risk Management Board and Ravec, and the two organisations will decide together whether to grant the couple taxpayer-funded security now that they are in the UK.
