A woman diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder has opened up about what love feels like for her, offering a rare glimpse into life with her husband.
Australian influencer Kanika Batra, now 39, received diagnoses of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) when she was 21.
Batra said the diagnoses came after 16 months of evaluation by a forensic psychiatrist, a lengthy process that ultimately gave her a framework for understanding aspects of her personality and behaviour.
She described people commonly characterised as sociopaths or psychopaths as 'very charismatic', singling out the charm and social confidence that can sometimes make such traits difficult to spot.

Speaking to LADbible Stories, she explained: "You will never realise you're dating or dealing with a sociopath or a psychopath because we are very, very well-versed on being appropriate and being seen in the correct light and behaving correctly, if you will.”

Batra stressed that she 'can feel love' and has 'had romantic relationships'. She tied the knot with her husband Sam back in 2023
She said: “Obviously, my current husband, Sam, I believe I love him more than I’ve loved anybody. He’s my rock. He’s so incredible.”
For Batra, her relationship with Sam is an exception to a pattern she says she has experienced in previous relationships. She describes becoming disillusioned with partners relatively quickly, often finding herself feeling contempt within three months of dating.
She said: “I think that Sam is kind of the exception to the rule of someone I could stay with long-term.”
What made the relationship different, she says, was the sense that she didn’t have to hide parts of herself.
“I was fully allowed to take off the mask, and he didn’t judge me, and he didn’t make me feel bad about anything.”
When asked what love means to her, the influencer describes it as something she consciously chooses to practise.

“I think love, especially for somebody like me, is something that needs to be done every single day.
“I’m not a slave to chemicals in my brain. I’m not a slave to my emotions like empaths are. I actively choose to show up every day. I will stand in his corner.
“I think my love is more powerful than any other love.
“I know what you offer me. I know what I can offer you. If it’s something that I feel is very beneficial for both of us, I’m going to fight for it every single day.
“I’m going to make sure that he is feeling his best. Whenever he needs me, he knows I’m there.”
While speaking about the common traits to look out for, Batra spoke in-depth about the 'mask' and how it functions day-to-day 'to be acceptable to society’.
Batra explained: “It's hiding any traits of envy, jealousy, rage, contempt. It's a very strong emotion that we feel, and that is rage and contempt. And that is very, very hard to actually suppress on a daily basis.
“And so, when we wear that mask, we show you a form of a person that we know is societally successful.”
