Prince George’s official Eton College portrait has sparked same reaction from royal fans

Royal Family fans are getting emotional over Prince George’s first official portrait taken at Eton College and commenting on the striking resemblance to his father, who attended the same school three decades earlier.

The 13-year-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton embarked on his first day of secondary school at the historic institution on Tuesday (8 September).

His first portraits were released by Kensington Palace shortly after, showing George smiling while wearing the Eton uniform - a black tailcoat, waistcoat and pinstriped trousers, with a stiff white collar.

As we say, royal enthusiasts have been gushing over the snaps and can’t get over how much the youngster looks like his dad when he was the same age.

One user posted the portraits side by side and penned: “Like father, like son! Prince William and Prince George on their first day at Eton College, almost 30 years apart.”

A second did the same and quipped: “Father and Son in their Eton uniform,” while a third added: “Like father, like son! The resemblance is incredible, even nearly 30 years apart.”

A fourth wrote: “I was waiting for this side-by-side of both father and son.”

And a fifth added: “They really look alike actually. The only difference is the eye color.”

While a sixth pointed out: “Adorable! As George matures each year, I see more and more of Catherine in his face.”

And a seventh gushed: “Such a proud moment for PW, seeing his son enter his old college.”

An eighth chimed in with: “Looks so much like Prince William here.”

While a ninth even realized: “Them doing the same pose, 26 years apart.”

The young prince is following in the footsteps of both his father William and his uncle Prince Harry, who both attended the college, located just across the River Thames from Windsor Castle in the town of Eton.

The Prince of Wales was an Eton pupil for five years beginning in 1995 and served as a house captain and prefect before leaving to study at St Andrews University, while Harry joined three years after his brother.

As George was dropped off by his proud mum and dad, Eton’s head master Simon Henderson told the future king: “Welcome, good luck, enjoy it.”

Other famous faces who attended Eton include Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Eddie Redmayne, as well as Prime Ministers including Lord David Cameron, writers George Orwell and Ian Fleming, and adventurer Bear Grylls.

George, the eldest of Kate and William’s children, turned 13 in July and has spent part of the summer in Scotland with his family enjoying a break from studies after leaving Lambrook School, a private prep school in Berkshire he attended with siblings Princess Charlotte, 11, and eight-year-old Prince Louis.

Fees to attend the prestigious Eton College are around £65,000 a year, with students having to follow a number of strict rules while boarding there.

The school has 25 boarding houses, each of which houses around 55 pupils starting from the age of 13, who are looked after by residential staff and headed by a house master.
