Midwife reveals whether Meghan Markle’s ‘labour dance’ is safe after twerking sparks controversy

Meghan Markle's 'labour dance' video has caused quite the stir online

A midwife has responded to Meghan Markle's controversial 'labour dance' video, as people question whether it's even safe during childbirth.

If there's one rule that applies to any woman in labour - let her do whatever the hell makes things even a little bit easier.

Whether it's getting on all fours, making 'moo' sounds, or clenching their fists, there's no room for judgement when you're birthing an entire human.

But Meghan Markle has been slammed on social media, after posting a wholesome video of her and Prince Harry dancing around their delivery room while she was heavily pregnant with Princess Lilibet.

The post was in celebration of the little one's fourth birthday, which she captioned: "Four years ago today, this also happened.

"Both of our children were a week past their due dates…so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work - there was only one thing left to do!"

But users online were convinced that a woman in labour couldn't, or shouldn't, be dancing around a room.

One hater responded to the clip saying: "Anyone with early labour won't be dancing like this."

Another added: "Anyone with early labor won't be dancing like this. Wasn't she worried moving like this will cause the water to break?

"The anticipation of contractions and the contractions itself will force you to stay still."

But a midwife has spoken out in defence of the couple, and has encouraged women to take part in the 'labour dance' to get things moving - if they can.

"I'm a midwife - this is not cringe at all," Twitter user @mdwfmom wrote. "It's excellent to progress labour for multiple reasons."

She added: "Clearly you know nothing about early labour. Or this may even be before an induction for all we know.

"Yes, I have seen many women do this. It's called 'labour dance'."

One study concluded: "The practice of labor dance was found to be effective in reducing the perceived labor pain in pregnant women and increasing maternal satisfaction at birth, but not on the duration of labor, and anxiety."

Others in the comments questioned the shape of Meghan's bump, as one said: "As a midwife...does that look like a normal baby bump to you?"

The midwife immediately responded, claiming: "It looks like a baby bump with a wireless monitor on it. Very common...so, yeah."

Give the poor woman a break!
