Meghan Markle and Prince Harry spotted on date night as fans defend subtle Princess Diana tribute
As Meghan Markle stepped out for date night with Prince Harry in Canada over the weekend, all eyes were on one particular detail in her outfit – and, quelle surprise, the attention wasn’t all positive.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a gala on Friday (7 August) to support their friend David Foster, who was celebrating 40 years of fundraising via his namesake foundation.
Meghan, 45, looked stunning as she posed for photos in a gorgeous one-shouldered dress from a Canadian designer called Greta Constantine, while her hubby, 41, went for a timeless black tux.

But it was the accessories that stood out, after people spotted Meghan was wearing a pair of very familiar diamond and sapphire earrings – jewellery that, according to Vogue, once belonged to her mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana.
Naturally, it was only a matter of time before she was accused of ‘riding the coattails of Diana’.
Vogue pointed out that Meghan has previously worn Diana's famous earrings, and owns a number of pieces of the late princess' collection including her butterfly earrings, matching cuff bracelet, diamond tennis bracelet, Cartier Tank Louis and her aquamarine ring - known as her 'divorce ring'.
And yet it still seems to be a problem to some people if she wears any of these in public.
Commenting on People's coverage of the event, one hater said angrily: "Diana’s jewels belong on the Princess & future Queen & not on Meghan Markle."
Another echoed: “Megan doesn't deserve anything! Since the beginning, she has been acting like she didn't know who he was or who his mother was.
“[...] If they ever divorce she shouldn't have the right to keep Princess Diana's jewelry. It should be given back to the estate to give to her daughter if she chooses to be involved in the royal duties not because she is related.”
Wow.
However, many other people stepped forward to defend the couple.
"Such a fuss," one wrote.
"William and Harry inherited property from their mother who left this for them in her will. They split up the property which was theirs to keep and give to their wives in future. Meghan is entitled to to wear Diana's jewelry as much as Kate is. But it seems to upset some people. It was Diana's will and Harry and William did both get inheritances."
Someone else fumed on her behalf: "DIANA IS RESTING IN PEACE, Y'ALL ACT LIKE SHE STOLE DIANA'S EARRINGS. OBVIOUSLY HER HUSBAND GAVE THEM TO HER."
A third commented: "They - and she - look wonderful as always!! Diana would be so honored."
A fourth added: "I'm dying! The keyboard warriors... GET OVER IT... you know so minimal about this couple, BUT you think you know them... They look great and happy.. Stop ... you must be teaching your kids/grandkids to be bullies the way some of ya'll are talking... Oh be proud... (sigh)."
Surely Diana would just be thrilled her jewels were still getting some attention on the red carpets? We think Meghan looks great, as always.
