Donald Trump accused of making White House 'tacky' after a series of renovations

The Republican administration have reportedly dropped $200m on renovating the presidential residence

The US President's interior decorating skills have been called into question this week, as he continues with his controversial nine-figure renovations of the White House.

Trump's team first announced that $200m would be plied into the construction of a brand new ballroom last month, claiming the Republican is 'currently unable to host major functions honouring world leaders', 'without having to install a large and unsightly tent'.

According to subsequently released designs of the new addition - which has also been described as a 'much-needed' and 'exquisite' - it'll boast 90,000 total square feet, as well as a capacity to seat 650 people.

The ballroom's construction was brought to life just weeks after the 79-year-old began adding 'gold piece after gold piece' to sections of the presidential residence.

According to CNN, as well as adding 'tiny gold cherubs over the doorway' to the Oval Office, Trump had some details 'imported from Mar-a-Lago' in Florida, where he boasts several plush homes and golf courses,

"A lot of the finishes that he wants closely resemble his private clubs," journalist Kevin Liptak previously explained.

The right-wing leader's renovations also extended into the White House's Rose Garden, which he is said to have 'paved over' entirely with 'white stone.' "He was worried that women's heels were sinking into the grass when it got wet," Liptak added last week.

With an increasing number of photos of the work so far being released online, left-leaning voters have been left horrified for a number of reasons.

A number now fear that the extravagant renovations point to Trump's plan to remain in the White House for a third term - which goes directly against the US Constitution.

Others were distraught by the way the money was being spent - especially given the 'substantial' cuts recently made to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as part of the the Republican administration's 'big beautiful' reconciliation package (via CNBC).

A third group, meanwhile, were simply blown away by Trump's apparent lack of taste.

"The 'gold' stuff is tacky for sure, but he himself is the most tacky thing of all," one critic hit out on Instagram this week.

Another claimed: "Ruins every single thing he touches."

"The rose garden looks like a basic outdoor eating area," a third jibed.

"Someone needs to stop Marie Trumptoinette," another referenced the extreme spending.

A fifth penned: "The Rose Garden now looks like a public car park with some cheap garden furniture on it - how delightful!"

Another slammed the President, adding: "He’s making the White House look like [poop emojis].

"Should never be allowed to change the White House like this it’s disgraceful and gaudy...."
