A threat against one female comedian has proven a threat against all, after Ellen DeGeneres was this week forced to jump to Rosie O'Donnell's defence against Donald Trump.
Taking to Truth Social over the weekend, the US President claimed he was 'giving serious consideration' to revoking 63-year-old O'Donnell's citizenship, accusing the talk-show star of being a 'threat.'
For those in need of a reminder, the comic was born to one parent that hailed from New York, and another from a different country. This is also the same family dynamic as the politician himself.
Following Trump's second inauguration in January, O'Donnell fled the States, setting down in Ireland and applying for Irish citizenship through her father, who'd emigrated from County Donegal to America before she was born.

"Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship," the 79-year-old Republican wrote online, however.
"She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her.
"GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

In response, O'Donnell issued a fiery response on Instagram, sharing a photograph of Trump alongside now-deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and writing: "Hey Donald –you’re rattled again? 18 years later and I still live rent-free in that collapsing brain of yours."
The reference to Epstein comes amid public outcry about the late media mogul's death, specifically allegations that Trump's administration had mishandled the investigation into his crimes.
She went on to address his 'threat to humanity' insult, describing herself as 'everything you fear: a loud woman, a queer woman, a mother who tells the truth.'
"You want to revoke my citizenship?" O'Donnell added. "Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan."

The latter aspect of the insult referenced a largely-despited, sadistic character made famous by George R. R. Martin's book series and the television show Game Of Thrones.
A number of huge-name stars immediately flocked to the funny-woman's defence - including stand-up star and fellow presenter DeGeneres.
The TV star shared a screengrab of both Trump's threat and O'Donnell's response, writing a simple, three-word caption: "Good for you @rosie."
DeGeneres has long been a public opposer of Trump and his anti-LGBTQ policies.

So much so, that the 67-year-old was said to have moved temporarily from America to the UK after he won another Presidential election in November.
The comedy star returned to the US in the months that followed, being spotted in Montecito, California, donning a new look of short-cut grey hair.
