Donald Trump has taken aim again, this time at Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell - but people have spotted a major issue with one of his claims.
The Federal Reserve System is the central bank of the United States and it watches over the effective operation of the US economy.
For those who aren’t up to speed with Trump's latest moves, he indicated in a private meeting this week that he is leaning in favour of dismissing the head of the US central bank.

However, on Wednesday (16 July) he seemingly back-pedalled and said it is 'highly unlikely' he will fire him 'unless he has to leave for fraud'.
The POTUS did confirm that he discussed the 'concept' of dismissing Powell in a meeting with about a dozen Republicans, who had gathered at the White House on Tuesday to discuss crypto legislation in the House of Representatives.
Then during an Oval Office meeting on Wednesday, he brutally added: “Almost every one of them said I should.”
And now, a video from the day is circulating on social media, showing Trump again making his feelings clear about Powell.

He told reporters: “He’s a terrible Fed Chair. I’m surprised he was appointed. I’m surprised frankly that Biden kept him in and extended him.”
However, the video has quickly done numbers on social media, as people have pointed out that the person who initially appointed the Fed Chair was Trump - not Biden.
In 2017 during his first term in the Oval Office, Trump nominated Powell to serve as the chairman.
But, Joe Biden did renominate Powell in 2021, which is what the president seems to be referring to.

One X user who shared a clip of the moment, wrote: “In a shocking moment, during a rant in which he brutally criticises Fed Chair Jerome Powell, Trump forgets that he appointed him, saying “I'm surprised he was appointed. I was surprised that Biden put him in.
“Trump nominated him in 2017.”
A second joked: “The list of people Trump hired, turned against then fired is extraordinary.”

A third commented: “That’s like getting someone pregnant and then acting shocked at the baby shower.”
Someone else pointed out: “Trump appointed him in 2017 BUT Biden reappointed him in 2021.”
Meanwhile, others questioned why the reporters in the room didn’t point out that it was Trump who initially appointed the government official.

One shocked social media user questioned: “WHY DIDN’T A REPORTER POINT OUT THE FACT THAT HE APPOINTED POWELL?????”
Another asked: “Any journalist going to remind him that he appointed Powell?”
