Donald Trump has apparently taken a title from his Presidential predecessor Joe Biden - but it’s not exactly one you’d want to hold.
The US President, 79, has awkwardly been accused of falling asleep on camera more times than his former Democratic opponent.
On Tuesday (12 May), the hosts of MS NOW’s Morning Joe, the hosts joked about the most recent time that Trump had his eyes closed at a public-facing event, during a maternal healthcare event at the White House the day before, where he met with healthcare workers as his administration launched Moms.gov to highlight resources for unexpected pregnancies.
Huffpost reports that the President looked like he was nearly snoozing for almost 20 seconds during the event; however, the White House reportedly argued that he was ‘blinking, you absolute moron’.

Discussing the moment on their morning talk show, host Joe Scarborough joked: “That’s a very long blink!” while Jonathan Lemire sarcastically added: “That’s the longest blink I’ve ever seen.”

Pointing out how Trump continuously calls Biden ‘Sleepy Joe,’ Scarborough argued: “This isn’t the first time he’s appeared to be taking a catnap in the Oval Office. So again, you know, [Ronald] Reagan did it. People do it. OK, that’s fine.
“But you can’t just go on and on and on about Sleepy Joe, Sleepy Joe, Sleepy Joe, and then sleep even more in the White House than your predecessor did.”
Lemire added: “With increased frequency, President Trump appears to be ‘blinking’ at great length on camera in the Oval Office in front of a lot of people, which is raising some questions about him and his age and such.”
Just this week, following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the President used the nickname as he wrote in a post on Truth Social: “When President Xi very elegantly referred to the United States as perhaps being a declining nation, he was referring to the tremendous damage we suffered during the four years of Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration, and on that score, he was 100% correct.”

Since then, other outlets have claimed that Trump has actually fallen asleep on camera more times than Biden, with Moby Invest even going as far as drawing up a chart on the matter, which claims he’s nodded off seven times in 2026.
Back in January, Trump addressed the ‘sleepy’ accusations head-on and explained what's really happening.
The President has been pictured with his eyes closed at Pope Francis' funeral, during cabinet meetings at the White House, and even while attending the US Open men's singles final.
Trump told The Wall Street Journal: “’ll just close. It’s very relaxing to me. Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink."
Tyla has contacted the White House and a rep for Joe Biden for comment.
