Donald Trump's brutal comments about his predecessor Joe Biden have sparked serious backlash online.

It's no secret that the American president, 79, isn't fond of the former Democratic leader, 82; however, some people think his recent remarks are a little below the belt.

It was revealed in May of this year that Biden had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. A statement released on 18 May by his office said the 82-year-old, who left the White House in January, had an 'aggressive form of cancer'.

It read: "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians."

While Trump had initially expressed sympathy for his predecessor, it seemingly didn't last long.

While calling it 'very sad', he seemingly questioned the validity of Biden's illness, claiming to reporters in May: "I'm surprised that the public wasn't notified a long time ago because to get to stage nine, that's a long time."

Then later on in May, he called Biden a 'somewhat vicious person', adding: "If you feel sorry for him, don't feel so sorry, because he's vicious. What he did with his political opponent and all of the people that he hurt - he hurt a lot of people, Biden, so I really don't feel sorry for him."

On Saturday night (20 September), the Republican leader delivered remarks at the American Cornerstone Institute Founder's Dinner in Mount Vernon, Virginia.

He told the crowd: "I also ended the weaponisation of law enforcement against religious believers, as you know. And pardoned the pro-life activists thrown in jail by the very angry, mean Biden.

"You know Biden was always a mean guy but never a smart guy. You go back thirty years ago, 40 years ago, he was a stupid guy. But he was always a mean son of a b***h you know?"

Trump added: "Hows it working? Not working too well for him right now. So, when you start feeling sorry for him, remember he's a bad guy."

One Twitter user shared a clip of the moment online, writing: "HOLY S**T," while a second chimed in with: "This man should show some sympathy right? At least toward the ex president of United States of America."

And a third and fourth added: "The man has zero empathy and only cares about himself. What did you expect?" and "That was a horrible thing to say."

With a fifth question: "Are the American people really ok with that? It used to be that there was something like statesmanship, but by now all sense of decency has been lost."

However, others defended the US president, writing: "He doesn’t mention his illness at all", and "He's a mean guy, no mention of cancer. Get it right."

"Where did he mention cancer? Wtf is this?" someone else added.

Tyla has contacted the White House for comment.
