The Florida governor has just signed off on Donald Trump renaming yet another public building after himself.

The US President, 79, has already slapped his name onto The Kennedy Center, the Institute of Peace, and a whole new class of battleships, to name just a few recent instances.

Not to mention the fact that the US Treasury Department is also currently planning to put the Republican leader's signature on all new American paper currency.

As the world leader's second term continues, it feels like there are fewer and fewer places to go without being met with Trump's face or name.

And now, travelers in South Florida are set to find themselves landing in 'President Donald J Trump International Airport' rather than Palm Beach International Airport.

It comes after Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation on Monday (30 March) to rename the building, sparking mixed responses on social media.

However, before the name can officially be changed, a formal request needs to be submitted and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as the completion of rights agreements.

Last week, Representative Brian Mast also introduced legislation to change the airport's three-letter code from PBI to DJT, aka Trump's initials.

The airport in question is roughly two miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. If approved, the huge name change is due to come into effect on 1 July.

But, the FAA said in a statement: "Changing an airport name is a local issue, and the FAA does not approve airport name changes.

"However, the FAA must complete some administrative tasks to include updating navigational charts and databases."

Reacting to the news that the name change has already been approved by the Florida governor, one disappointed X user penned: "Insane to not feel embarrassed by this," while a second guessed, "I bet the FAA does not have the spine to stop this."

A third questioned, "Why randomly change the name of random things, just why? It confuses people, is just stupid, and inefficient. If you want an airport named after someone just build your own damn airport."

Meanwhile, a fourth and fifth asked: "Are we just gonna rename everything after Trump?" and "Why do they want to replace everything with his name? Just to be deleted in a few years."

"I’m so glad there’s nothing going on in the world, and they had the spare time to devote to this," sarcastically agreed another.

While someone else demanded, "No other president has named things after themselves while in office. You’re a delusional idiot if you think this is okay."

But, others were a fan of the controversial change, with some social media users joking: "Palm Beach just got a little less crowded. Great move," and "This is gonna p** off some Dems."

Another gushed: "History in the making! First Florida resident elected President now has his home airport to match. July 1st is going to be a massive day for PBI!"
