Trump’s official website has started selling ‘Trump 2028’ hats and people are seriously confused

The 78-year-old Republican has sparked major confusion online after releasing the new merch

United States president Donald Trump's official website has started selling 'Trump 2028' hats and people have been left seriously confused.

The headwear piece in question, which has the title 'Trump 2028 Hat', currently retails for $50 on the Trump Store, alongside a 'Trump 2028 Shirt' for $36.

The product description reads: "The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat. Fully embroidered with a snap closure in the back, this will become your new go-to hat."

The website adds that the hat is 'Made in America', as well as featuring a snap closure, an embroidered front and flag 'emroidery' (they clearly spelt embroidery wrong on the official website) on the side.

Now, for some context, Trump and his allies have time and time again flirted with the prospect of the 78-year-old running for a third term in 2028 - meaning he'd be the grand age of 82 when he hypothetically assumed the role of the 48th president of the United States (after previously being both the 45th and 47th).

However, as we know, the Constitution forbids such a thing from happening.

As per the National Constitution Center, the 22nd Amendment reads: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

Speaking to NBC's Kristen Welker late last month (30 March), the Republican leader insisted he's 'not joking' about a potential third stint in the role and referred to a 'loophole' which could help him get around the law.

Welker suggested that current vice president JD Vance could take on the role and elect Trump as his VP. From there, Vance could then resign, possibly allowing Trump to fulfil the role of president again.

The US leader responded by saying 'that's one' potential situation that the two could find themselves in.

But he insisted that he was more focused on his current presidency than anything else.

Trump said: "A lot of people want me to do it. I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration."

"I like working," he added. "I’m not joking. But I’m not - it is far too early to think about it."

Despite claiming that there are 'other methods' which would allow him to run again in 2028, Trump did not elaborate any further.

Not long after Trump was sworn in as president, US Representative Andy Ogles put forward a new measure, hoping to amend the long-standing constitution.

The Republican House member claimed Trump had 'proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness'.

Ogles wanted to change the Constitution so that it read: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times," as opposed to 'two'.

However, an amendment to the legislation is highly unlikely as the notion would require either a two-thirds vote in Congress, or two-thirds of all states to agree to convene a constitutional convention to propose changes.

So, with all that said, it's understanding why people rushed to social media to share their confusion over the new Trump 2028 merchandise.

One X user speculated: "He’s about to change the constitution omg."

"I’m telling myself it’s a joke but it’s like kinda not funny at all," lamented a second while a third chimed in: "That’s impossible right?"

A fourth penned: "That’s a hard no from me," as another quipped: "Not him planning for another term."
