Donald Trump just entered the pharmaceutical market with a website selling weight-loss jabs.

The 79-year-old Republican just launched his newest initiative, TrumpRx, which claims to offer the 'world's lowest prices on prescription drugs'.

According to the US President, the website is an online pharmaceutical drug market which is direct-to-consumer and government-operated, allowing US citizens to buy prescription drugs at discounted prices.

A message on the site claims: "America was being overcharged for medicine. The same drugs, made in the same factories, at the same dosages, are costing Americans up to 1000% more than in any other country. This is unacceptable."

It continues: "Thanks to President Trump, the days of Big Pharma price-gouging are over. Leveraging the full weight and power of the United States of America, the President has ensured every American gets the lowest prices on prescription medications in the developed world."

Medicines listed on the site include the Wegovy pill for $149 and the injectable pen for $199. The Ozempic pen, which isn't approved as a weight loss drug, also starts at $199.

Yesterday (5 February), Trump unveiled his plans during a press event at the White House.

As reported by ABC News, he made the announcement alongside Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and National Design Studio Director Joe Gebbia.

Trump said: "Starting tonight, dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers throughout a new website is called TrumpRx.gov.

"For years, politicians from both parties have promised to bring down prescription drug prices and make health care more affordable, but they all failed."

He urged: "This is a big deal, this is a very big deal, people are gonna save a lot of money and be healthy."

The world leader said that 'Novo Nordisk will be slashing the price, as an example of Ozempic, from more than $1,000 to to $199', while Wegovy, another GLP-1 medication, will drop from '$1,300 to $199'.

Trump claimed that the reduced drug prices are the 'largest reduction in prescription drug prices in history by many, many times, and it's not even close'.

The website has reportedly launched with savings on more than 40 popular drugs, and a group of 16 drug companies has agreed to discount deals, according to the White House.

TrumpRx works by having users search the site for the medication they're looking for, then print a coupon and present it at a pharmacy to buy at the discounted price.

It's important to note that the slashed prices are only available for cash-paying patients - not for those trying to pay through insurance, and they do not go toward insurance deductibles.

According to The Independent, the prices you see on the site are part of Trump's 'most favoured nations' pricing scheme.

It essentially means drug companies have agreed to sell prescription drugs to Americans at the same rate as the nation that pays the least for the drug.
