King clarifies Prince Harry and Meghan's royal status with new statement
King Charles III has clarified that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will remain private citizens despite their return to the UK.
As per the BBC, a letter sent on behalf of the monarch outlines that they will continue not to be working royals and won't be carrying out official engagements.
Charles instructed the Lord Chamberlain to contact government departments and the military following requests for guidance after the return of the couple last month.
The Sussexes stepped down as working royals in 2020 for personal and financial reasons but returned to the UK on 26 August, with rumours rife as to the reason behind the unexpected development.

The letter states: “Following the decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to relocate to the UK, we have received a number of requests for guidance. To help avoid doubt or confusion, The King has directed that the following information be shared.”
It continues: “It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family.
“This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”
To explain, a non-working royal is a member of the Royal Family who doesn't perform official duties or represent the monarch at state and public engagements.
The BBC reports that Meghan and Harry will still not be able to use the 'HRH' titles of His and Her Royal Highness.
The clarification comes after the shock news broke that Meg and Harry would be relocating back to the UK from California with their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
Their return has prompted a slew of questions over what exactly their life in the UK again might look like.
Harry and Meghan are expected to be living in a non-royal residence outside of London, reported to be in the Cotswolds area, having already enrolled the children in British schools.
Rumours have been swirling that the big overseas move could be linked to a professional opportunity for Meghan in the entertainment world, allowing her to go back to her acting roots.
The Duchess starred in the US legal drama Suits as Rachel Zane between 2011 and 2018, prior to meeting Harry.
However, nothing is confirmed, and as of right now, the reason for the change is still quite mysterious.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
