'Back in my day, Happy Meals weren't this expensive', the children in the McDonald's queue hear me and my friends wail.

Like everything else, the cost of everyone's favourite fast food menu has shot up.

Last year, McDonald's raised their price of a cheeseburger from 99p to £1.19 - increasing the price of the item for the first time in 14 years.

Hungry customers have felt the effects of the cost-of-living all over the menu.

A Big Mac these days will set you back £4.99, and a Happy Meal costs £3.59, so it doesn't always feel like the cheeky, cheap treat we grew up with.

Seemingly catching on to those of us who have grown up with the golden arches taking offence at these rising prices, McDonald's have announced a price slash that kids can enjoy just in time for Easter.

McDonald's is offering a irresistible 40% discount on Happy Meals, making them just £1.99 each.

It includes all of the classic options; hamburger, cheeseburger, fish fingers or McNuggets, alongside fries or a fruit bag, and a toy.

This offer can be redeemed exclusively through the McDonald's app, and the meals can be eaten in the restaurant, collected, or delivered between March 28 and April 14.

This price slash comes as McDonald's in the UK have partnered with card game Uno for the first time, featuring DreamWorks Animation characters.

In your little one's Happy Meals, there are six mini Uno card packs to get hold of, including the iconic classic Uno card pack and five card packs with designs featuring Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, Trolls and Megamind.
