There was really no better treat as a child than stopping at a McDonald's and getting your hands on that recognisable square box that contained not only delicious food, but a toy to go with it.

The joy that accompanied diving in to your chicken nuggets and scrabbling around in the corners for any runaway chips well and truly warranted the title of a Happy Meal, but as we grew older and hungrier that one box just didn't quite cut it any more.

Obviously there are a lot of other, larges items to choose from on the McDonald's menu, but none of them quite hit the same as the classic Happy Meal. Luckily for all the nostalgic grown ups, though, that's about to change.

This week, McDonald's announced plans to introduce Happy Meals for adults, which of course wouldn't be complete without a free toy.

The release comes as part of a collaboration between McDonald's and the streetwear brand The Cactus Plant Flea Market Box, and is set to start rolling out in participating stores in the US from next week (3 October). BRB, going to America.

The adult-sized Happy Meals will include more filling menu options such as a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, as well as a drink and the all-important fries, but I know the thing you're most interested in is the toy.

Over the years we've had Disney-themed collectibles, squashy toys and keyrings, but this time McDonald's will be returning to its roots with four collectible figurines of McDonald’s mascots, namely Grimace, the Hamburglar, Birdie, and a Cactus Buddy.

Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, said the collaboration is 'reigniting a new generation’s love' for both McDonalds and Cactus Plant Flea Market.

“We’re taking one of the most nostalgic McDonald’s experiences and literally repackaging it in a new way that’s hyper-relevant for our adult fan,” he said. “I can’t wait to give fans a unique piece of art and culture as we dive headfirst into the dynamic world of Cactus Plant Flea Market together next week.”

Hassan isn't the only person excited for the launch of adult Happy Meals, with one McDonald's fan taking to Twitter to share their enthusiasm as they wrote: "IM SO EXCITED FOR THE ADULTS HAPPY MEALS."

Another Twitter user commented: "bet ur a** im getting the adult happy meals for the collectibles."

You don't ever need an excuse to go to McDonald's, but if you're looking for one, this is definitely it.
