Household mishaps are a frustrating problem, but few are arguably more inconvenient than a blocked toilet, which can be a headache and then some.

But if you've tried and failed to solve the problem yourself, then this handy hack is definitely one to use or simply keep in mind for the future - and it costs just 1p. Check it out:

The hack was shared on TikTok by a savvy mum, who explained that 'every house' needs to know about the hack.

She begins: "Every house needs to know this hack when you get a blocked toilet.

"You get some washing-up liquid and squirt some at the back of the pan like this.

"Leave for 30 seconds to a minute, flush, and the blockage is gone."

Now, if you've ever tried to clean a blocked toilet, you'll know how difficult and sometimes expensive it can be, as heavy unblockers often don't come cheap.

It looks like the key part of this hack is giving the washing up liquid a chance to make whatever the blockage is slippery enough to be easily flushed away - so if you give it a go, remember that you need to squirt the liquid at the back of the toilet.

The hack is shown in action in the viral video too, featuring a blocked toilet that is quickly unclogged by the hack.

The TikToker captioned the video: "My brother taught me this & it works EVERY TIME."

The video went far from unnoticed on the social media website since it was posted on 3 November, and at the time of writing, it's been liked over 350K times - showing just how much of a common headache blocked toilets are.

TikTok users were big fans of the hack.

Reacting to the hack, one TikToker couldn't help but joke: "Am I the only one who puts the lid down and leaves it for the next person to sort?"

"I just close the lid and pray," revealed a second while a third remarked: "Am I the only one who uses old coat hangers?"

"I always pour hot water down and it works," shared a fourth viewer.

However, a fifth was willing to give it a go, writing: "Going straight to the toilet as my brothers blocked it [sic]."

"Such a good hack," remarked a seventh, who can only presume gave it a go.

An eighth shared: "It does actually work (sometimes) bucket full of soapy water, come back half an hour later it's unblocked [sic]."

What do you think of the hack?
