Benny Blanco has opened up about how his longtime friendship with Selena Gomez eventually turned into a relationship, revealing that he believes their romance may never have happened if they had met at a different time in their lives.
After years of friendship and musical collaborations, the pair's relationship blossomed into something more, with Gomez confirming their romance in December 2023.
Since then, the hitmakers have become one of the internet's favourite celebrity couples, with fans following every milestone in their love story, which may feel like a whirlwind for fans but was actually many years in the making.
The couple announced their engagement in December 2024 and their wedding followed in September last year.

With their first wedding anniversary fast approaching, Benny Blanco reflected on the importance of timing.
While speaking on The Mel Robbins Podcast in an episode released on Thursday (3 September), Blanco said: “Everything in life is about timing. My relationship with Selena is another great example.”
He “added: We always talk about how it never would have worked out if it were at a different time or place in our lives because neither one of us would have likely been ready.”

The ‘Eastside’ musician said they first met ‘about 15 years ago’ and worked together on music ‘five or six years after that’. This working relationship turned into a ‘casual friendship’.
“Now she’s my wife,” the 38-year-old said.
Interestingly, Selena Gomez previously shared a similar reflection about timing during their joint interview on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast last year.
“I felt like in other situations of mine, I was very reactive,” the Rare Beauty founder began. “I think that’s why I was alone for five years because I really needed to collect myself. I think, in the past—that’s why I say to him all the time—10 years ago, it’s not that I wouldn’t have wanted to be with you; I just wouldn’t have been in the right headspace. And I don’t think that you deserve what I had gone through before.”
In a separate interview, Selena again talked about timing, saying that five years earlier she wouldn't have been mature enough and that the lessons she'd learned had helped her become the best partner she could be for Benny.
When asked if timing is everything, she told Allure: "Definitely," and explained "I don't think I would have been remotely mature enough."
"It's weird to think that only five years ago I wouldn't have been in the right place, but I’ve learned so many lessons [since then] that led me to being the best partner I could be for Benny. And I believe the same with him," she reflected. "He'll say, ‘Gosh, why did we waste so much time?’ And I always say, ‘You wouldn't have liked me back then.' I appreciate his heart, his kindness, his quirks…He's one of the most grounding people in my life, and he makes me feel very normal."
