Miami prison couple Daisy Link and Joan Depaz left the world in shock when they welcomed a daughter last year without ever meeting in person.
Yep, you read that right - the duo got pregnant in a way no-one could have predicted while they were both inmates at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, US.
Link, 29, was charged with second-degree murder after she allegedly killed her husband in 2022, according to Law&Crime while Depaz was respectively being held on a separate murder charge.
The craziest part of the story is that the couple had only ever communicated through an air conditioning vent located between their upstairs and downstairs cells.

So, how on earth did they manage to welcome a child together without ever so much as touching each other? Well, the process might shock you more than the story itself.

Getting familiar with each other, the inmates would make it a routine thing to chat through the vents every evening in an attempt to make time go quicker.
They then began passing notes and letters to each other through the vent as their relationship deepened.
Depaz told WSVN that after things had blossomed between the pair, he told Link that he wanted to have a baby but knew he wouldn’t have the opportunity to do so for a very long time.
Meanwhile, Link shared that she had a similar desire to become a mother, and so, they came up with a plan to make both of their dreams come true and make them parents.

How did Daisy Link and Joan Depaz conceive without meeting?
Now, the question on everyone’s minds is how on earth did they do it?
The very unusual method thought up by the couple included bedding, saran wrap, a yeast infection applicator and a string.

Depaz explained that the two utilised bedding to make a line between their two vents, which he used to pass semen rolled in saran wrap to Link in her own cell.
She then used a yeast infection applicator to insert it into her vagina with the hopes of falling pregnant.
Depaz revealed that he put the semen in saran wrap every day, five times a day for a month straight.
Link told WSVN: “He would kind of like roll it up almost like a cigarette and he would attach it to the line that we had in the vent and I would pull it through.

“From there, I had placed it inside of, you know, the yeast infection applicators? I had placed it inside of there and then from there, yeah, I administered it.”

How long did it take for the method to work?
Miraculously, their bizarre method worked after just a few attempts, resulting in a positive pregnancy.
“I was very excited. I was ecstatic about it,” Link said, “I can’t believe it worked. I think everything happened for a reason.”
The publication reported that their baby girl was born on 19 June 2024 at Jackson Memorial Hospital and she is now being taken care of by Depaz’ mother.
The couple, who reportedly are now in different jails, still talk on the phone and are able to see their daughter on video visits.
Dr. Fernando Akerman, a fertility specialist, told the publication that the chances of succeeding using a method like this are very slim.
He said: “We estimate that probably their chances were less than five percent, but that is not to say that the chances were zero.
“So this is absolutely a case that is exceedingly unusual. To my knowledge I’ve never heard or read anything like this.”
