Setting aside time to have sex can be surprisingly difficult.

When you take into account work schedules and other responsibilities, you'll find you're increasingly pushed for time to get some action.

We usually think of sex as an activity associated with night time.

But experts have revealed the best time to get lucky - and it might come as a surprise to many.

This result comes from a survey of 500 men and 500 women, mostly in long-term relationships, between the ages of 18 and 65.

They were asked to record the times at which they had sex over a six week period.

For each sexual encounter, they were asked to rate their enjoyment out of 10.

And it turns out that having some fun between the sheets is apparently best done in the wee hours of the morning.

It's certainly one way to get yourself ready for the day.

And an exact time for hanky panky perfection?

7:30am, according to experts, with the time coming out on top as the most pleasurable time.

It was selected by one in four participants.

On the whole, morning sex trumped night sex resoundingly, with two-thirds of those surveyed preferring it over nocturnal nookie.

Of the 33 percent who opted for night sex, 16 percent chose 9pm as ideal and 15 percent opted for 10pm.

Only a measly two percent were up for getting down after 11pm.

The findings were compiled by CBD brand, Naturecan.

Sex in the morning is seen as the best option, as the endorphins generated will boost your mood.

Interestingly, men seem to prefer the morning sex over women, who would rather do it in the evening.

Women are also shown to be the ones deciding whether sex goes ahead or not.

But having sex can work up an appetite and have you hankering for a filling breakfast.

What time is best to reach for the Cheerios?

The survey has an answer for that too!

Most people went with 7:45am as the best time for breakfast, followed up by 12:45pm for lunch and 6:15pm for dinner.

At around 3:30pm, most people were in the mood for a snack.

I like the idea that anybody can pick out a specific time they're snacking.

I feel like I'm grazing throughout the day between meals.

And how about Wine O'Clock?

27 percent were opening up their bottles at 6pm, with only 11 percent leaving it as late at 8pm.

I guess we'll have to wait for another survey to get a consensus on when Gin O'Clock is.
