Mum claims school refused to give daughter, 7, lunch after she broke school dress code

Mum claims school refused to give daughter, 7, lunch after she broke school dress code

She was in hospital when her daughter was enrolled so was not familiar with the dress code.

A mum has claimed her seven-year-old daughter was denied her lunch after she broke her school's dress code.

Taking to TikTok to recount her daughter being 'starved', Harlie, who posted under the handle @thisisharlie, said that her school too umbrage with the first-grader wearing a top with spaghetti straps.

Harlie said in the now-viral video: "Update on my first-grader being refused lunch because of the spaghetti straps on her shirt.

"Y'all aren't going to like it, and I really don't like it."

The video was a follow-up to an earlier TikTok where the concerned parent had revealed the problems associated with raising a child in Southern America.

It was captioned: "POV: You're raising a first-grader in the South."

The mum began by explaining that she had been the one to unknowingly break the dress code at her daughter's school and showed off the outfit she had worn when the incident took place.

She said that she was in hospital when her daughter was enrolled at the school and had failed to familiarise herself with the rules after her daughter's grandmother dealt with the entry forms.

"We broke the dress code, yes 100%," Harlie said then revealed what she did when her daughter told her she had been denied lunch. "I went in there and told them my problem wasn't the dress code.

"They got combative instead and I'm really disappointed."

Harlie admitted to breaking the dress code.

Harlie went on to reveal that one of the teacher's at the school claimed that her daughter was lying about being taken out of lunch, but she said she knows this wasn't the case.

"I believe my kid," Harlie said. "She doesn't lie to me about stuff - not like this."

Another teacher allegedly claimed that her daughter had been taken out of lunch for a different amount of time, but it wasn't because of the dress code violation - instead it was because she was walking 'too slow'.

Harlie proceeded to ask if her daughter could have an exemption from the dress code, but she was denied one allegedly because there is no longer a mask mandate at the institution.

But despite being denied, she said she will let her daughter dress how she pleases and asked the school to contact her before denying the seven-year-old food.

She then said that she would be removing her from the school if another incident takes places.

"That is exactly what I intend to do because if a teacher is too distracted by a seven-year-old's shoulders to continue teaching I do not want her in that classroom," Harlie said.

"Number two, if your solution is to starve her and shame her in front of her friends, yeah I'm about to pick her up."

Teachers gave the mum different stories about what apparently happened.

The mum ended the video by explaining that she was not revealing the school's name because she was not yet aware of the potential legal ramifications of doing so.

However, she did ask any viewers in Tennessee if they knew of good schools that they would be willing to recommend as an alternative for her daughter.

Harlie went on to reveal in another follow-up that a lawyer informed her that the unidentified school's alleged actions were illegal.

The video went far from unnoticed on TikTok, and at the time of writing, it has been viewed over a million times.

"Refused food?" questioned one viewer. "Sue the school."

A second observed: "They waited until lunch to dress code her, so not only did she loose lunch she lost recess and was embarrassed."

"As a middle school teacher, I refuse to enforce dress code," remarked a third while a fourth declared: "Regardless of dress code being broken or not, it is illegal to refuse to give a student a meal/time to eat lunch."
