Furious woman claims she was told to 'cover up' by gym staff

If there’s one place you don’t expect to enforce a dress code, it’s the gym

If there’s one place you don’t expect to enforce a dress code, it’s the gym. Afterall, when it comes to getting hot and sweaty, less is best on the clothing front.

Crop tops, shorts and loose-fitting tanks are the crème de la crème of workout attire and specifically designed to keep our bodies cool when we work up a sweat.

Bearing all that in mind, it’s no wonder one woman was left feeling a tad peeved by the fact she was told to ‘cover up’ by a member of staff at the gym she’s been visiting for years.

Watch Jo's video below:

TikToker @jo.fitt explained in a recent post that staff took issue with the crop top she was wearing during a workout, writing across her clip: “POV: Your gym of three years dress codes you.”

She clarified in the comment section that she’d been told she has to ‘cover up, no crop tops and that’s all I wear lol’.

Jo’s videos have amassed almost 100,000 followers, and needless to say, many of them were shocked to hear she’d been issued a crop top ban.

One person wrote: “You’re kidding me?” while another added: “Dress code? What is this high school?!”

Other comments included: “Time to look for a new gym, girly!”, “Dress codes for gyms are kinda … weird?” and “Wowwww report this to corporate.”

In the next video posted by Jo on her TikTok account - which showed her working out at the gym in a black crop top and leggings - she quipped in the comment section: “Still wearing crop tops.”

Another TikToker named Vonny also took to social media recently to reveal they’d been ‘dress-coded’ at the gym.

Vonny said she’s been told that she had ‘too much abdomen on show’ and captioned her post: “Love love love this for me. Felt like I was in middle school being dress coded for a bra strap showing.”

Across a video of herself lifting weights, she wrote: “You can apparently only show two fingers worth of skin.”

She added: “They’re lucky I even wore a shirt. I’d rather work out in a bra.”

People were quick to jump to Vonny’s defence in the comment section, with one person writing: “Dress code at the gym? Literally we should be able to wear a sports bra that’s so wack I've never heard of that.”

Other comments included: “Time for a new gym that’s RIDICULOUS” and “That’s ridiculous!!!”
