An Evri driver has left people stunned after explaining just how much he makes per delivery, having broken down his pay in a video.

While there are some delivery workers out there who give the industry a bad name – whether it’s eating the takeaway you’ve ordered or lobbing your parcel over the fence and into the pond – the vast majority of them are out there working hard every day to get our goods safely to us.

But how much are they getting paid for braving the unreliable British weather, disgruntled customers and miles and miles of traffic?
Maybe not as much as you might think...
One man who says he works for Evri, which was formerly known as Hermes, has broken it all down for us in a video shared to YouTube Shorts.
He said: “You’re getting 50p a collection - no matter what you’re collecting. A Postable gets you 38p, despite some Postables not being able to be actually posted.”
The ‘Postables’ he’s on about is just a term used for large letters and anything else that fits through a letterbox, which can be delivered via the courier service.
The worker continued: “You get 47p per packet that you deliver and there’s going to be a lot of packets.
“And your standard box gets you about 63p, unless it’s heavy or you have to use two hands because then it’s a pound.”
In another video, he explained that one person ordered so many packages in one go that he made £2.35 just delivery them to her door.
The man went on to divulge how much he can made in about six hours of working, adding: “I averaged about 130-150 parcels in that time.
“So depending on size etc you could make between £60-£80 if you’re lucky.”
But while it might sound like a decent wedge of cash for a few hours’ work, many people pointed out that it still takes a fair bit of graft to get there, while one also pointing out ‘you pay petrol to deliver them’.
One user commented: “This is the problem if you wanna earn an extra £50 to £100 a week it’s a nice little quick side hustle.
“But my mate work and he earns over £750 a week because how many he does daily. Can be great money but hard work to earn it.”
And the YouTuber agreed, saying: “Being self employed teaches you self-worth. If you want to earn as much as you think you’re worth, then be prepared to work as hard as you can!”
While many of us might begrudge having to work around Christmas, the Evri driver said there’s an unexpected advantage as a lot of the items ‘were Christmas presents so much bigger’, meaning he could make more money.
It’s worth noting that the man’s video only showed a snapshot into the company’s pay, as it didn’t include various admin or bonus payments Evri employees are subject to.
An Evri spokesperson told Tyla’s sister site LADbible: “Couriers are at the heart of our business and all of Evri’s people are paid above the National Living Wage, with the average courier pay in excess of £17 per hour.
"Evri is committed to good employment practices, and it was this commitment that led us to be the first parcel company to introduce holiday pay, the right to guaranteed pay, an automatic pension scheme and parental leave for our couriers.
"If any courier feels that they have received pay which is different from what they were expecting, we ask that they contact their manager so that we can look into this immediately.”
