One delivery driver straight up refused to hand over a customer's food after receiving what she felt was a far from satisfactory tip for the journey.

The driver was fuming and stormed off from the residence after the customer waited '40 minutes' for his food.

All caught on a door-cam, this encounter takes tipping culture to a whole new level. Check out the bizarre interaction here:

The driver in question, who worked for food delivery company DoorDash, has single-handedly sent the internet into a storm following her outright refusal to hand over one customer's food after she only received an $8 (£6) tip.

While a six quid tip is pretty decent for many - it's clear that this sum did not cut it for the woman who went on to keep the delivery hostage as punishment for the sub-par payment.

What she didn't know, however, was that her entire meltdown was captured on the customer’s Ring doorbell camera and the video is now going viral on social media.

After being uploaded to YouTube, the outburst has been viewed over one million times.

The outburst has gone viral online with over one million views.

The video, first shared back in 2021, shows the driver in a total fit after claiming she embarked on a '12-and-a-half mile' trip to get the food to its rightful owner.

While most food handover encounters are always fairly awkward in nature - it's clear that this was takes home the cup for most uncomfortable delivery driver interaction.

The woman said she wanted 'actually' speak to the customer face to face, demanding answers for what she considered a measly tip.

Totally bewildered by the woman's strange requests, the customer asked her for clarification several times before arguing over the alleged '40-minute' car journey from Commack, Long Island to Smithtown which he claimed was only '15 or 20 minutes'.

The woman claimed she drove '40 minutes' to drop off the food.

She hit back: "It’s not, you need to try and drive it. I just drove it, it’s 40 minutes. It’s 12 and a half miles."

The woman said that the customer 'must not realise' just how far she had supposedly ventured to collect the order, insisting that he rethinks the tip percentage.

"I think you need to adjust your tip to make it right," she demanded.

The man takes no time to fire back, saying: "What the hell are you looking for? I gave an $8 tip."

The delivery driver then picked up the delivery bag and walked away from the house before telling the man: "I'm gonna bring the food back! I'm gonna bring the food back."

People were left in disbelief after watching the shocking encounter with one YouTube user writing: "The fact that she felt so entitled as to stand there and argue with him is fascinating.

"You do realise you can accept or decline delivery jobs right?

"If you didn't realise the distance, maybe you should be more observant while doing your job."

A fellow DoorDash driver even weighed in on the subject.

They commented: "As a DoorDash driver, an 8 dollar tip is good money!! I can’t believe she took the food back."

DoorDash has since released a statement about the video with a spokesperson saying at the time: "We take the safety of our community extremely seriously, and such inappropriate behaviour is never tolerated on the DoorDash platform."

They added: "Any behaviour that violates this zero-tolerance policy is grounds for deactivation, and the Dasher involved has been removed from our platform.

"We have been in touch with the customer to offer support, and sincerely regret that this incident fell short of the experience we strive to provide every day."

Regardless, I know I'd be gutted if the food I waited nearly an hour for got taken away from me for no good reason.
