Nobody panic, but skinny jeans might just be making a comeback.

Now, if you're old enough to have been wearing skinny jeans back in the Topshop Joni jeans era, then you'll know that they used to be *so* popular that wearing any other style was basically a fashion crime.

Yep, millennials everywhere loved the skinny jeans, and our obsession with them is something Gen Zs particularly love to roast us about.

However, after basically becoming extinct many years ago, according to Mamamia, the skinny jean might just be on its way back - but with some important style rules.

Lucinda Pickett, fashion brand PR and trend consultant, told the publication: "I love a skinny jean, it's just about how you style them. Millennials back in the day would wear skinny spray-on jeans with an ankle boot and then a tight top, and there was just no proportion or silhouette in that outfit.

"If you're doing a skinny jean, whatever shoe you're wearing changes the whole shape and silhouette of the outfit.

"Plus, having an oversized shape on top, like an Oxford shirt or an oversized jacket, to balance out the skinniness of the jean.

"So if you are a millennial and thinking, 'I don't want to touch skinny', just try playing with different balances or proportions."

Before we all go out to stock up on skinnies, there's some rules we must abide by if it's going to work.

Mamamia explain it's best to stick to dark washes like indigo and black, with looser ankles rather than spray-on tight styles.

Also - and this one is a big one - under no circumstances should the skinny jeans with the large ripped holes all over the knees and thighs, be making any sort of return.

Skin-tight jeans aren't the only trend that's long been debated between millennials and Gen Z.

Some even believe millennials are the 'least fashionable generation' while others call Gen Z's fashion more 'fun'.

In a discussion about style differences on Reddit, one person tried to sum up how Gen Z and millennial fashion is different.

They wrote: "To me, Gen Z is a lot of clothing that isn’t work appropriate but super fun. A lot of crop tops, bra tops, spaghetti straps, usually some tummy showing, and then some baggy pants. Lots of thrifting and also cheap fast fashion. Doc Martens and other platform shoes. Very 90s/early 2000s. Long acrylic nails, false lashes. Really fun and can be a really 'hot but trashy' style.

"Millennial fashion is more professional/better quality/structured. Linens, trousers, heels, sandals, etc. Frankly I think it has to do with millennials having more money. Low key hair, nails and makeup. Neutral colours and patterns. It’s a more mature style."
