Millennials call for one main item of clothing to be brought back after Gen Z kill off fashion trend

There seems to be yet another major fashion divide between the two generations

Brace yourselves, guys, there's yet another point of conflict between Millennials and Gen Z.

OK, so we're already all caught up on the whole hatred of high heels, the skinny jean controversy and - of course - the downfall of crop-tops, but it seems the latest contention between the two generations is all about, arguably, one of the most popular fashion trends of the 2010s.

The latest update in the saga has seen Millennials calling for this particular item of clothing to be brought back after Gen Z apparently killed it off for good.

Now, we've seen time and time again that fashion exists on a 20-year cycle.

So, for example, in 2024 we've seen a whole bunch of trends resurface two decades after they were initially popular.

Think low-rise flares, cargo trousers and thin brows - all synonymous with the Y2K era.

While many of Gen Z, who are born between 1997 to 2012, were way too young to have experienced such trends the first time around - it's clear our older predecessors born between 1981 to 1996 clearly have their fair share of fashion faux pas during this era.

And, understandably, they've done their best to move away from the baggy cargos, baby tees and brown lip liner as best they can in exchange for embracing (and sticking to) whatever was most popular in the 2010s - black leggings.

The conversation was opened up on Reddit where one person asked: "What’s your 'old person' hill you’ll die on?"

No doubt, people couldn't wait to share their two cents with one Reddit user confessing: "My black leggings will have to be pulled from my cold dead hands."

And, unsurprisingly, it prompted a whole avalanche of responses from people who clearly share the same sentiment.

A second admitted: "This is how I know I’m getting old because I unironically think 'kids these days wear their pants too baggy and too low'."

I feel personally called out...

"This! Why... why is teen fashion that of what our mothers wore in their mid ages?!" hit out a third. "Along with the leggings, you'll have to kill me to get me to put on low waisted pants again. Not gonna happen. Thanks to low rise pants, I have a permanent mushroom top, and gotta cinch that sh*t. Take your mom jeans back to SNL thank you."

A fourth leggings lover gushed: "I tried them for the first time some years ago and never went back. They are LIFE!"

"Wait are these 'out' now?!" wondered a fifth, while a sixth echoed: "Wait are black leggings not cool anymore or just not cool for us elder folks?"

"Nah, the kids wear 'flare leggings' now or what we used to call yoga pants back in 2007," explained another.

And a final Reddit user added: "I have a glorious and ridiculous rainbow of leggings. I refuse to be sorry.

"My husband calls them my 'not pants' and I frequently ask if we are going somewhere if I have to wear real pants."

Where do you stand on the whole leggings debate?
