The UK heatwave is really putting us all to the test, from ‘swoobs’ to heatstroke; not to mention suffering through our periods without a trusty hot water bottle to help us, we surely need a bit of relief.

If there’s one thing that we can get a handle on it’s getting rid of the SULA - Sweaty Upper Lip Alert - with a tried and tested method that has worked for Olivia Atwood (and myself) for years.

If it’s good enough for Olivia, then it’s good enough for us all, her genius hack has saved me this past week and quite frankly I didn’t stop at my upper lip.

Olivia shared her trick on Instagram a couple of summers ago, where she was seen using a Sure deodorant stick, explaining that it needs to be applied on a clean face before make-up application to help with excess sweat.

With the likelihood that heatwaves are going to become a regular occurrence in the future, this is one trick I’ve been putting to the test and it really does work.

Olivia’s 'Get Ready With Me' video on her honeymoon with ex-hubby, Bradley Dack went pretty viral.

After she was seen swiping a stick of deodorant across her face, many took to her comments to ask questions, to which she responded: "So basically what you need to know is setting your make-up with stick deodorant will change your life.

"This is one back from my Vegas pageant days lol. I use it anywhere you get makeup movement in the heat on a bare face first and then I go over at the end."

"Put it wherever you think you sweat and then you just carry on with your routine as usual," the reality star concluded.

The deodorant stick works well because it acts like a glue, but I’ve also tested out using a liquid formula like the Vichy 96-hour deodorant, which is currently just £6 on Amazon, as it has a bit longer staying power.

Even though you might find it odd to apply deodorant to your face and it’s not highly recommended, Vichy’s is hypoallergenic, aluminium and alcohol-free, so you’re not going to get that dry tightness on your skin when you apply it.

I’ve tested both products, the Sure deodorant stick is good, but I prefer that for my ‘swoobs’ and to prevent my inner thighs from getting slick and chafing.

The Vichy genuinely lasted me on a sweaty walk to the office and back again, my make-up surprisingly was still in place.

A heads up, if you have sensitive skin or are acne-prone please test first or consult a dermatologist before trying this on your face.

What is the "SULA" hack everyone's talking about?

SULA stands for Sweaty Upper Lip Alert, and it refers to a make-up trick where deodorant is applied to the skin before foundation to stop sweat causing make-up to slide off in hot weather. The hack was popularised by Love Island star Olivia Attwood, who shared it as a tip from her pageant days.

How do you use deodorant to set your make-up?

Apply a stick or liquid deodorant to clean, bare skin in any area prone to sweating before applying make-up as normal, then go over the same areas again once your make-up is finished to help lock it in place.

Is it safe to put deodorant on your face?

It's not a dermatologist-recommended use for deodorant, so it's worth testing on a small area first, especially if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Choosing a hypoallergenic, alcohol-free formula, like Vichy's 96-hour deodorant, reduces the risk of irritation compared to a standard antiperspirant stick. If you're unsure, check with a dermatologist before trying it.

Does the hack work anywhere other than your face?

Yes, the same trick can be used anywhere you tend to get sweaty during hot weather, including under the chest ("swoob" sweat) or on the inner thighs to help prevent chafing.
