The 56-year-old grandma who acted as a surrogate for her son has spoken about her sadness after being separated from the tot.

Nancy Hauck, from Utah, US, had offered to carry her son Jeff's baby after his wife, Cambria, 30, had a traumatic birth with their twins.

Incredibly grateful, the couple accepted but letting go after birth wasn't easy for Nancy.

"I never imagined I would be pregnant at 56 or that this would be possible, but it is the most beautiful thing," she explained.

Jeff and Cambria already have two sets of twins but wanted to extend their family, so Nancy stepped in to help and underwent tests to see if she was medically fit to carry the baby.

"I told them I was willing but that I thought I would be old.

“But to my surprise medics said I was healthy and could do it and here I am," she said.

So, the dedicated grandmother started hormone treatment after getting the go-ahead from doctors and injected herself every day for 12 weeks.

Once the hormone treatment was complete, doctors transferred one of Jeff and Cambria's embryos into Nancy.

Nancy said that the separation was sad.

The procedure was a great success and the couple was 'over the moon' at the news.

Admittedly, it wasn't a position Nancy expected to be in, but it felt familiar.

"The pregnancy has been very similar to carrying my son, but I’ve been a bit more nauseous," she said.

While the process was familiar, letting go was hard for the grandmother, who explained: "It is a mix of deep gratitude and some sadness from the separation."

Though Cambria praised her mother-in-law's selfless act, adding: "She is sacrificing so much for us, and our family, and we just feel so grateful.

"It has been so miraculous and beautiful to watch Nancy carry our sweet baby girl."

And the grandmother looks better than ever. "They say pregnancy comes with a glow, but Nancy’s is a full-on lighthouse."

Jeff was just as excited, adding: "We're just grateful and excited for the beautiful new life coming to our family.

"Being a dad has always been my dream, I adore each of my kids and take my role & responsibility as their dad very seriously. And the opportunity to be the dad to another beautiful baby girl is the greatest gift and blessing I could receive."

As you can imagine, the couple is incredibly excited to welcome their new little one.
