You'd be wrong in thinking diehard fandoms only existed for celebs, singers, blockbuster smashes and TV shows, as it's clear even specific food and drink fans have a very outspoken cult following too.

And it's fair to say the realm of fizzy Cola-flavoured drinks is quite a heated topic amidst such individuals, with many arguing over what's best: Coca-Cola, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Pepsi Max and Diet Pepsi.

Now, wherever you stand on the matter, things get that one bit more complicated when you take into account all the spin-off flavours, limited editions and discontinued offerings that have cropped up throughout the years - one of which is now finally being brought back.

Yes, guys, the long-missed Diet Coke Lime is coming back - and it'll be sold in its super nostalgic retro packaging too!

The once-super-popular flavour was a 'breakout hit' when it first hit the shelves back in the early 2000s, combining that signature crispy Diet Coke flavour with just the right amount of citrussy tang from zesty lime, until it was replaced with Diet Coke Ginger Lime over a decade later in 2018.

Fans of the particular beverage were gutted over the disappearance of their favourite flavour, so you can imagine their excitement after catching light of the news, with one Instagram user writing: "God bless omg."

"Am I dreaming or is this real???" beamed a second while a third chimed in: "I’m so excited for this!!"

A fourth confessed: "Omggggg yessss I add true lime packets to my Diet Coke every day so this is amazing."

"This is the best news EVER," declared a fifth while another hyped: "This is the best day of my life."

And a final Instagram user echoed: "It’s back?!?!? Soooooo good!!"

The flavour is set to hit shelves nationwide in the US in just a matter of weeks (6 October) in single-serve 20-ounce bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans.

However, they'll only be on sale for a limited time while supplies last.

A rep for the company has explained, per Parade, that 'consumer demand' is the reason behind bringing the once-discontinued flavour back now, suggesting 'Diet Coke is listening' to fans and satisfying their 'appetite' for the nostalgic, old-school look, citing the 'runaway success' of Retro Diet Cherry Coke.

It's important to note that, over in the UK, fans have been able to purchase Coke Zero Lime as well as regular Coca-Cola Lime - but not the Diet Coke Lime variety - for quite some time now.
