My Best Friend's Wedding star ready to make sequel with Julia Roberts

My Best Friend's Wedding star ready to make sequel with Julia Roberts

The classic romcom was released 26 years ago

A star from timeless romcom My Best Friend’s Wedding has said he’s ready to make a sequel with Julia Roberts, and frankly we NEED this to happen.

The 1997 flick follows Julianne ‘Jules’ Potter (Roberts) as she comes to terms with the news that best friend Michael O’Neal (Mulroney) is getting married.

The bombshell comes as a bit of a blow, especially as they had a deal to tie the knot if they both found themselves still single by 28, and Jules sets about sabotaging his big day.

Naturally, her grand masterplan comes crashing down as she realises Michael and his bride Kimberley are meant to be.

Now, 26 years on from the cinematic masterpiece (that ‘I Say a Little Prayer’ dining table scene!!), the two lead stars may potentially be reuniting for a sequel.

Well, they’re both up for it, at least, and surely that’s the hardest battle.

Roberts, 56, was recently asked which of her movies she’d most like to turn into a sequel, having been posed the question from a fan while on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

"That's a really good question and I've never been asked it," she said, before deciding on My Best Friend's Wedding, explaining how she’d love to see ‘how Kimmy and Michael’s marriage is going’.

In another interview on CBS Mornings, Julia speculated on what the characters might be up to now, saying she felt Michael would remain ‘married and faithful to his wife’.

“And George [Rupert Everett] and Julianne start a do-it-yourself show on HGTV and become wildly famous,” she added.

26 years later, both leads reveal they'd be up for a sequel.

And it turns out Mulroney is equally up for revisiting their respective characters, too.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said excitedly: "Yeah, no, I'm in!

"I'm thrilled to hear Julia's finally, you know, coming to her senses."

Mulroney added: "You know I would love to work with her any day of the week, month or year."

As for what he thinks Jules, Michael and Kimmy are up to now, the actor implied he just trusted the writers for coming up with an appropriate follow-up.

He said: "Oh golly. I don't know - that's not my job.

"But if they - if they put that story together, I'm there for sure."
