This lady will give you nightmares...

Last night's MTV Video Music Awards was full of the best artists the world has to offer right now, but there was a creepy jump-scare for those at home who were shocked by a woman’s face in the crowd.

While people at home and at the VMAs were busy bopping to performances by Chappell Roan, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, there was one person who was waiting for their moment on screen.

During one of the most waited for award shows, viewers got to see LL Cool J on stage, performing his hits ‘Around the Way Girl’, and ‘Doin’ It’, ‘Passion’ and ‘Proclivities’ from his newest 14th studio album, The F.O.R.C.E.

But when the camera panned to the audience to see their live reactions, there was a creeper in the background and fans online are losing their minds.

What fans at home could see was a crowd of cheers, until one woman’s face ruined the vibe and scared watchers with her horrifying look.

The lady in question was waiting for her moment to freak people out. With her face slightly tilted down, a strange smile plastered on her face and her eyes staring intensely ahead, it made people question whether what they even saw was real.

You can see here what happened:

Online, people took to Twitter to ask the same thing: "Did I just see this?"

One person wrote: “I’m sorry but did anyone else notice that one girl in the audience who was giving the Kubrick stare?!?!”

As another said: “Yo did ANYONE else see the girl staring directly at the camera all creepy after LL Cool J at the VMA’s or am I tripping.”

Someone else commented: “ME AND MY FRIEND WERE ON CALL AND WE SAW THIS AND SHE WAS LIKE ‘GO ON TWITTER BC I KNOW IM NOT INSANE’.”

A user was so freaked out that she worried for the event: “I saw it and was creeped out and then panicked that something bad was gonna happen.”

One person even speculated she was Carrie, from Stephen King’s teenage horror book, writing: “Did nobody see this person looking like she was using telepathy to lock everyone in UBS and drop a bucket of blood on LL Cool J?”

As many people searched for answers, none was given to ease their fears.

But they all knew the same thing: This lady was creepy as hell.

Whether it was viral marketing on live television - Smile 2 is out on 18 October after all, and they pulled similar stunts for the first film - or it was someone just having some morbid fun at the VMAs, we’ll never know.

Aside from that, the rest of the show went as planned, and without a creepy face in sight.

Taylor Swift paid her respects to the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 and becoming the most decorated music artist in the event’s history by bagging seven awards for as a solo-artist.

Megan Thee Stallion hosted and gave fans a saucy recreation of Britney Spears’ 'Slave 4 U' outfit.

Sabrina Carpenter went on to win Song of the Year for TikTok’s favourite song, 'Espresso', as well as giving an alien a kiss which shocked fans.

All in all it was a great night, despite the strange smile lady.
