Tommy Fury shares 'controversial' date rule with Molly-Mae Hague

Tommy Fury has sparked an age-old debate by revealing the one date night rule he sticks to with his fiancée Molly-Mae Hague.

The British TV personality and professional boxer, 27, made the admission during the latest episode of his BBC podcast, What The Fury?!, with his dad, John, 61.

While the father and son were chatting, the topic of who pays for dinners came up, with Tommy making his more traditional views clear.

He was asked, “Is paying for dinner gentlemanly or old-fashioned?” to which the Love Island alum replied: “I think it's both. I don't think Molly's ever paid for a dinner in her life with me.

“I think the man should pay; it's a gentleman thing to do. That's just how I think.”

John agreed, adding: “Same here because every time I've been in a woman's company in my life, I've always paid.”

Some fans were surprised by the admission since Molly herself is reportedly worth over £6 million, while others argued it's what they would have expected, celebrity couple not.

After all, whether men or women should pay for dates is a question that’s left people squabbling for decades.

One social media user agreed with Tommy and his dad, writing: “Why should she? She’s your partner; it’s respectful,” and a second simply added: “As she shouldn’t.”

However, a third argued: “Absolutely not, I always work it like this, whoever is inviting is paying.”

A fourth wrote: “Molly-Mae setting women's equality back 50yrs. I make my own money; I'll pay my own way. If a man wants to treat me on my birthday, that's fine, but otherwise I'll do it.”

And a fifth added: “Women wanted equality; they got it. Why should the man always pay for dinner? What if he hasn't got much money? Just cos Tommy is rolling in it, not everyone is, and times are tough now!”

Meanwhile, a sixth reasoned: “I don’t necessarily think they should pay every single time, but the majority of the time, yes. My now ex-boyfriend never paid for anything, it was always me paying. Needless to say I got tired of that quickly.”

Elsewhere, someone else took issue with Tommy revealing his and Molly’s date night rule, writing: “Why publicly ‘out’ your partner? People have no respect now.”

While someone else wrote: “It’s a dilemma; there was a time when if a man wanted to take me out he’d have to pay as I just didn’t have the cash. My dad would’ve never let a woman pay. Times have changed. If a man let me pay for him the most, then that’s a no. If he wanted to pay I’d graciously allow him.”

The debate comes after Tommy and Molly welcomed their second child at the beginning of June, a little boy called Midas Fury.

They already share a three-year-old daughter, Bambi, who was born in January 2023, and this time around, Molly has been keeping fans up to date with her motherhood journey on YouTube.
