Meaning of Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury’s newborn baby boy’s name after finally debuting it

The big moment everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived - Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury have announced the name of their second baby.

After leaving fans on the edge of their seats for a week after announcing the birth on 3 June, the former Love Islanders, both 27, revealed the unique moniker in a very special way.

The engaged couple, who already share a daughter called Bambi, three, went on to share that they had a baby boy, but had yet to reveal the name - until Saturday night (13 June).

Tommy confirmed that their new addition is called Midas Fury, as he proudly displayed the name in gold letters on his boxing shorts when he stepped into the ring for his match against Eddie Hall in Manchester.

Fans had a theory that this would be the way they announced the name, as Molly had hinted at it in previous YouTube vlogs, so a slew of fans were tuned into the sporting event to find out.

Meaning of the name Midas

Some internet detectives guessed right with the name Midas, but what exactly does it mean? Well, as per Ancestry, it originates from Ancient Greek and Thracian contexts, and symbolises none other than wealth and opulence.

You might have heard of the ‘Midas touch,’ as the name is specifically linked to Greek mythology - King Midas was famous for having the ability to turn everything he touched into gold.

Nowadays, the name is used to describe people who have a special knack for generating wealth, being told they have the ‘Midas touch’.

However, the moniker also serves as a cautionary emblem about the consequences of greed, as the mythological story becomes a curse and leads to Midas not being able to eat due to everything he touches immediately turning into gold.

Although, we’re not sure that this part of the story would be what Tommy and Molly were going for when they chose the name!

The duo have had the unique name lined up for months, as Molly said in a YouTube vlog back in March that their baby name was 'very original' and they were 'never gonna call our baby just an ordinary name'.

She teased that she’d ‘actually only ever heard of one other baby being called this name’.

Molly revealed: "Whenever I see cool baby name lists on TikTok, I have never, ever, ever seen this name in any of these lists, which is just really quite original of us.

"Can’t wait for everyone to literally probably dislike it and be like ‘da f***?’, but yeah, it was never gonna be an ordinary name guys, let’s be honest."

There have been mixed reactions to the name on social media, with some fans loving it and others confused after never hearing it before.

One X user penned: “Midas Fury is such a boxing name if I've ever heard one lmfao weird but so good.”

While another wrote: “Midas Fury is such an unexpected name. How's that hard to pronounce?”
