Sabrina Carpenter was apparently advised to go pantless at the Met Gala this week for a rather unusual reason.

On Monday (5 May) evening, celebrities from across the entertainment and fashion world gathered for one of the biggest events of the year, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in Manhattan.

This year, the event's theme was 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', inspired by a new exhibit at the Met which celebrates Black fashion and dandyism.

Vogue explains the theme 'examines the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora'.

In true Met style, celebs including Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Rihanna - who announced she's expecting her third baby - were in attendance, showcasing their interpretation on the red carpet.

Sabrina could be seen wearing a pantless Louis Vuitton bodysuit and blazer for the event, which featured a burgundy train.

Sabrina, 25, accessorised the tuxedo-inspired style with diamond necklaces and rings and later spoke about her outfit and the inspiration behind it.

She also revealed why Pharrell - Louis Vuitton's menswear creative director - was against her wearing pants, due to her height.

"This is Pharrell," she told Vogue.

"I'm such a massive fan of Pharrell's and have been to the show and I was just like, 'If I could go this year with him, that would be my dream.' And it came true.

"He was like, 'You're quite short so no pants for you.' So here we are. Here we are."

Sabrina did explain there could be a hidden benefit to the look - actually being able to go to the bathroom during the evening.

"Never been to the bathroom once because I've never been able to use it in my outfit. So tonight might be the night," she said.

"We'll see... And I'm just gonna let everybody know what it looks like. I'm sure it's just a normal museum bathroom but I'm excited to find out."

Kim Kardashian has often spoken about not being able to go to the bathroom during the Met due to some of her tight-fitting looks.

In 2019, when she wore a corset-style Thierry Mugler dress, she said: “If I have to pee, it’s a problem. Honestly, if it’s an emergency, I think I pee my pants and then have my sister wipe my leg up.

"I’m not even joking. She can wipe my leg up.”
