The prospect of snowfall is something dreaded by millions of people each winter.

Travelling disruptions, shovelling snow from your driveway and slippery surfaces - there are many things to dislike about it.

But when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.

Reese Witherspoon took to TikTok to show off her creation, dubbed 'snow salt chococinos', which you can see here:

The Legally Blonde star and mother-of-two shared a clip of herself making the sweet treat - which looks as though it could give Starbucks a run for its money.

"So, we've had a ton of snow over the past few days," she explains in the voice-over. "We decided to make a recipe."

Filling up two mugs with snow, the actor added salted caramel and chocolate syrup because 'we like how they taste together' - before finishing it off with some cold brew 'to have a yummy coffee flavour'.

Filming herself tucking into the big pink mug with a spoon, Reese gushes: "Oh my gosh, it’s so good. I know what to call it: a snow salt choccinno".

'Snow days were made for Chococinnos', she captioned the video.

Despite the chocolatey snack looking like a mouth-watering delight, it caused a huge debate between many viewers.

In fact, the majority raised questions about the cleanliness of the snow being used.

"No no no.. snow is not made to eat.. u can get seriously sick," one fan penned.

While another wrote that fallen snow 'can be very dirty from the air and wind'.

"Am I the only one concerned that she scooped it off of her car," asked another before a fourth went on: "I thought eating snow was dangerous to our health".

However, some could see the appeal, with one person adding: "The people saying snow is bad, have clearly never made snow ice cream!"

Another shared a similar view: "Has no one ever experienced snow ice cream?"

Reese shared her new sweet snack on social media.

While a third said they 'do this same thing every time it snows'.

Someone else said they thought 'everyone did this. '

Since uploading her video, Reese has addressed her concoction in numerous follow-up videos.

Talking directly to the camera, Reese told her followers that she 'didn't grow up drinking filtered water'.

"We drank the tap water. We actually put our mouths on the tap, and then sometimes in the summer, if it was hot, we drank out of the hose." she said.

Reese addressed the comments online.

She laughed: "We put our mouth on the hose growing up! So, filtered water, maybe that's why I'm like this.

"So, what you're saying to me is that I have to filter the snow before I eat, like, I just can't! No! I don't know how to do that!"

However, viewers were right to be concerned because, according to a 2016 study, snow in build-up areas tends to absorb toxic substances from car exhausts.

Speaking to the Huffington Post earlier this year, Dr Parisa Ariya admitted: "As a mother who is an atmospheric physical chemist, I definitely do not suggest my young kids eat snow in urban areas in general.

"I do not wish to be alarmist."
