Reese Witherspoon reveals A-list celebrity refuses to talk to her after controversial speech

The Legally Blonde star confessed she was still 'haunted' by the awkward ordeal

Reese Witherspoon has candidly opened up about the A-list celebrity who simply refuses to talk to her following her pretty controversial speech.

Now, fans of the 48-year-old Legally Blonde star will know her latest rom-com starring alongside 57-year-old Anchorman actor, Will Ferrell, You're Cordially Invited, has just landed on Amazon Prime yesterday (January 30).

And, while the Oscar winner has a number of box-office smashes and prestigious accolades under her belt from throughout her decade-spanning career - it's clear there's one moment from her professional past that still 'haunts' her nonetheless.

In a recent interview with People, which was just published earlier this week on Thursday (January 30), Witherspoon revealed that she still thinks about the major faux pas speech she once delivered for a famous actress at an award ceremony.

"It literally haunts me," she shared, before explaining the situ in a little more detail: "So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award.

"But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her."

And, boy, how she was wrong.

Witherspoon cryptically described the event in question as 'British', 'elegant' and 'classy' - noting that her roasting blunder was far from keeping with the vibe.

Recounting the moment, she continued: "I was like, 'Remember the time we got laser hair removal?'" before lamenting that she was 'still embarrassed' about the ordeal.

According to Witherspoon, the 'proper actress' in question, whom she was careful not to name, simply could not see the funny side of the situation and stopped speaking to her point-blank afterwards.

"We're not friends anymore. I'm not even kidding - we're not friends anymore," she laughed before confessing. "I think she doesn't like me anymore.

"I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad."

"Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore," she finished up before resolving 'oh well!'.

While incredibly awkward at the time, this particular speech mishap could have ended up helping Witherspoon with her role as Margaret in You're Cordially Invited as the character likewise makes a cringe-worthy speech at her sister's wedding.

So, maybe it wasn't all in vain?
