Ozzy Osbourne’s one demand for funeral granted as wife Sharon and kids pay their respects with heartwarming tributes

A resurfaced interview has revealed exactly what Ozzy Osbourne wanted his funeral to be like - and fans think the day was a fitting tribute

Ozzy Osbourne’s one request for his funeral has been revealed, after the Black Sabbath star was laid to rest in his home town of Birmingham yesterday (30 July).

The world is mourning for the music legend, who tragically passed away last week at the age of 76.

His wife Sharon Osbourne, 72, and their three children together - Jack, 39, Aimee, 41, and Kelly, 40, got to see all of the heartwarming tributes and flowers that fans had left at Black Sabbath bench.

Members of the crowd shouted 'we love you Ozzy' as his hearse and coffin travelled through the city he grew up in.

Musicians from Bostin Brass played Black Sabbath songs to accompany the cortege, and fans threw flowers at the hearse while it slowly passed through.

The car passed the star’s childhood home in Lodge Road, Aston, at about 12.45pm, before heading into the centre where hundreds of fans lined the streets.

The day and the monumental turnout were a fitting tribute to the rock star - and based on what he’s said he wanted his funeral to be in the past, it definitely seems like it delivered.

In a fan Q&A with The Times back in 11, Ozzy opened up on exactly how he would picture the day.

On brand as ever, he made it clear he’d want it to be a ‘celebration’ and not a ‘mope-fest.’

He revealed: “I honestly don’t care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen if it makes ’em happy – but I do want to make sure it’s a celebration, not a mope-fest.”

The Black Sabbath frontman continued: “I’d also like some pranks: maybe the sound of knocking inside the coffin; or a video of me asking my doctor for a second opinion on his diagnosis of ‘death.’

“There’ll be no harping on the bad times. So to answer your question, yes, a bit of planning is the right thing to do for the family you leave behind.”

He added: “It’s worth remembering that a lot of people see nothing but misery their whole lives.

“So by any measure, most of us in this country - especially rock stars like me - are very lucky. That’s why I don’t want my funeral to be sad. I want it to be a time to say ‘thanks.’”

Speaking about the procession on Reddit, fans of Ozzy agreed that they well and truly think his wishes were honoured.

One person wrote: “What a fantastic send off. They had a brass band playing Crazy Train, and the crowd was singing along and chanting Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!

“He said he didn’t want a Mopefest and he got a celebration. It made me laugh and cry at the same time.”

A second added: “Wow! Amazing. Befitting of a legend who changed the course of music history. Rest in peace Ozzy, you will forever be remembered.”

While a third chimed in with: “I was there today. It was a great atmosphere, as he would have wanted. Chants, singing, applause and cheering. Birmingham will never forget you Ozzy. RIP.”

Others added: “What an amazing way to remember someone. I'm sure his family felt the love” and “Well this is beautiful and now I'm crying.”
