Melissa McCarthy shows off new look for JonBenét Ramsey series
Fans of Melissa McCarthy did a double take when they saw her brand new look for an upcoming Netflix series.
The Gilmore Girls alum, 56, is playing Patsy Ramsey, the late mother of American child pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey, who was murdered in December 1996.
The six-year-old was found dead in her family home in Boulder, Colorado, on 26 December, 1996 and the killing remains unsolved. The Boulder Police Department still keeps an open file on the case and provides yearly updates.
Patsy Ramsey passed away in 2006 but JonBenét's father, John Bennett Ramsey, 82, now lives in Michigan.

Both parents will be portrayed in an upcoming drama series The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. A first-look picture from the series show Melissa as Patsy and Clive Owen as John seated in front of cameras.
Melissa wears a long black skirt suit paired with matching flat shoes while her hair is styled in a big ‘90s blowout.
"Good lord, give the costume designer and wig team a raise, because that look is so spot on I GASPED," one fan commented on Instagram. “She really looks like Patsy!" and a third said: "You nailed the hair!"
Another fan praised Melissa’s new look for the show, writing: “She looks exactly like Patsy, down to her expression!" while a third shared: "I thought that was really Patsy."
Melissa is a force of nature in the comedy world, in movies like Spy, Bridesmaids, and Ghostbusters and starring as one of the titular characters in the sitcom Mike & Molly. However fans in the comments also mentioned how great she in more serious roles.
“When Melissa decides to do a dramatic role, you better hold on to your hats,” one fan declared. “It's gonna get good.”
Another social media user commented: “Oh good lord. Melissa McCartney has put her dramatic hat on. I’m seated.”
“Melissa [is] coming for her next Emmy,” another fan gushed.
The caption for the Netflix post reads: "Two Oscar-nominated actors. One of the most consequential cases in American memory. Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Ramsey in THE MURDER OF JONBENÉT RAMSEY."
Boulder police provided an update on the case in December last year. Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said: "The killing of JonBenet was an unspeakable crime and this tragedy has never left our hearts.
"We are committed to following up on every lead and we are continuing to work with DNA experts and our law enforcement partners around the country until this tragic case is solved. This investigation will always be a priority for the Boulder Police Department."
He continued: “Last year we gave you an update about a lot of the work that has been done to solve this crime and those efforts have continued. This case remains a top priority for our department."
The police chief revealed that this past year, detectives have conducted 'several new interviews' as well as 're-interviewed individuals based on tips' they've received.
He added: "We have also collected new evidence and tested and re-tested other pieces of evidence to generate new leads. Techniques and technology constantly evolve.
"This is especially true with technology related to DNA testing.
"Detectives continue to consult with outside experts from across the country as well as our state and federal partners to strategise and explore all options when it comes to evidence testing.
“It is never too late for people with knowledge of this terrible crime to come forward, and I urge those responsible for this murder to contact us.”
