Ozzy Osbourne’s funeral was showcasing a subtle colour, which nodded to a specific thing as he was laid to rest in Birmingham yesterday (30 July).
The music legend passed away at the age of 76, having battled health problems for decades. While worries for his health were strong, the news of his death still came as a shock to the public on 22 July.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” read a statement obtained by Page Six.
“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

His wife Sharon Osbourne, 72, and their three children together - Jack, 39, Aimee, 41, and Kelly, 40, visited a mountain of heartwarming tributes and flowers that fans had left at Black Sabbath bench, commemorating the legendary singer.
During the processions, Ozzy was taken around his hometown as the car passed his childhood home in Lodge Road, Aston, at about 12.45pm, before the family then met with fans that lined the streets.

Many people noted how his family members paid tribute to him by wearing items that nodded to his life and career.

Wife Sharon was visibly distraught as she left the car with her children and walked to the flowers and gifts. As she leaned over to place her own pink rose, wrapped in black floristry paper, what looked like Ozzy’s wedding ring could be seen dangling from a long chain around her neck.
Daughter Kelly Osbourne was also seen wearing something of her dad’s- a pair of circular, blue-tinted glasses that look like her father’s signature pair. According to NPR, the glasses became part of Ozzy's attire in the mid-90s, and the shape is supposed to be a nod to late musician John Lennon.
Aimee wore a bat brooch, referencing Ozzy’s infamous bat-biting controversy during a show in 1982.
Jack wore a black Chrome Hearts tie with a silver cross embellishment at the bottom, nodding to his dad’s love of cross jewellery.

But what was probably less notable was a certain colour: purple.

From flowers to decorations, purple can be seen everywhere if you look for it, and the reason is very touching. It’s because it was Ozzy’s signature colour.
Purple and black have been long associated with the rocker, with his Lennon glasses donning a purple tint too.

Birmingham and Brussels used the colour purple when lighting up the sky, paying tributes to the frontman, and the singer once covered Purple Haze, a song by Jimmi Hendrix.
It’s only natural that they’d choose purple flowers, accessories and ribbons to honour a man associated with that very colour.
For Ozzy, he wanted his funeral to be something that wasn’t a sad affair.
Ozzy wrote in his autobiography I Am Ozzy, published in 2010: “Eventually death will come, like it comes to everyone.

“I've said to Sharon: ‘Don’t cremate me, whatever you do.’ I want to be put in the ground, in a nice garden somewhere, with a tree planted over my head.”
He said it should be ‘a crabapple tree, preferably’ so this his ‘kids can make wine out of me and get p***ed out of their heads’.
Ozzy jokingly added: “As for what they’ll put on my headstone, I ain't under any illusions. If I close my eyes, I can already see it. Ozzy Osbourne, born 1948. Died, whenever. He bit the head off a bat.”
