Kim Kardashian is speaking out about the criticism in response to North West’s apparent piercings.
The reality star has come under fire before because of her 13-year-old daughter’s style. The eldest child of Kim and Kanye West has shown her blue hair, makeup and temporary black grills on social media as part of an experimental aesthetic that has shocked some observers.
In a recent TikTok live, Kim appeared to set the record straight about North’s facial piercings. The SKIMS founder, 45, explained that her daughter always had a fascination with piercings and would use fake ones in Pre-K.
“The thing about North is when she was a baby, dropping her off at school—all she wanted was [...] her septum pierced or her eyebrow pierced and she would do, like, a double brow just like in pre-K, going in with fake piercings.”

North weighed in and seemingly referenced comments from fans who say that her style is a result of her parents’ divorce. “Yeah, so you guys can’t say, ‘Where did the style come from? Is this style from the divorce?’ No, queen, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
However fans have continued to express concern on social media. “Girl, I wanted so many things in primary school and am so glad my parents said no,” one viewer shared on Reddit.

“Just... yikes,” another social media responded.
“I wanted it all at her age. Doesn’t mean I got everything I wanted,” a third person wrote.
This isn’t the first time North’s style has raised eyebrows. Last September, Kim and North, who was 12 at the time, were spotted on holiday in Rome. Eagle-eyed fans noticed what appeared to be an authentic dermal piercing on the pre-teen’s middle finger.
North wore electric blue hair, a black corset, mini-skirt with knee-high boots and a heart-shaped purse.
Fans raised concerns at the time, claiming that North was too young for a dermal piercing. "Who the f--- lets their 12 year old have piercings? And who the f--- pierces a 12 year old? My kid didn’t even have her ears pierced at 12," said one person at the time.

In a cover story with Dazed, published in August, the 13-year-old opened up about her love for piercings and revealed one she’s not allowed to get.
“They just make you your full self,” she told the publication about why piercings appeal to her.
“I really want to get my bridge pierced, but I’m not allowed,” north added.
The bridge piercing, which is also known as an Earl or Erl piercing, is a horizontal piercing through the skin on the bridge of the nose.
In February, North shared a picture which appeared to show several dermal piercings on her hands.
“When I was 12 I was sitting on the front lawn with my neighbour playing board games... No internet, no social media, we had to find things to keep us busy and laughing it was a good time,” one concerned Instagram user replied.
While another person wrote: “I’m all about self expression but saying NO as a parent is okay!!”
