Matthew McConaughey has opened up about the surprising bedroom secret that he says did wonders for his relationship.

The 55-year-old Interstellar star, who has been married to Camila Alves McConaughey for over a decade after tying the knot back in 2012, revealed a nugget of wisdom to fellow couples alike on the one thing they could try out that would do wonders for their marriage.

Nope, it's not couples therapy, 10/10 communication, or even spicing things up in the sack as, speaking to Fox News Digital, McConaughey explained that the secret is as simple as doing away with a king-sized bed and opting for a smaller, more cosy-sized bed frame.

"I wake up one morning … I'm looking over there, and Camila's like a football field away, man," he shared.

"Then you go to bed at night, like, you want to snuggle up and … ‘Well, we’ve got to cover you up. Come about 12 feet, and I'll come 12 feet'."

The Dazed and Confused actor carried on: "You're like, man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a b*tch."

McConaughey shared that he and his missus finally landed on a queen-size bed instead, where they're now sleeping 'shoulder to shoulder'.

"I'm telling you," he claimed, "it's good for your marriage."

Don't worry, guys, the relationship advice doesn't stop there as the Hollywood A-lister also made sure to highlight the importance of prioritising a romantic connection with a partner, even during the mundanities of day-to-day life and parenting duties.

"You've got kids, so you don't … you're spending as much time being a good mother and father of them, but you also gotta make sure - and I can do a better job of this - of going, 'No, this is our time,' " McConaughey said.

He added: "You can't 100% live with the kids as a parent.

"You gotta make to remember that one of the best examples you can give the kids of how to treat a woman or a man or how to someone they end up falling in love with down the line is how you treat their mother and how the mother treats the father."

McConaughey and his wife Camila share three children together - Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and their youngest, 12-year-old Livingston.

"The only thing I ever knew I wanted to be was a father," he told PEOPLE in October 2020. "And it's remained the pinnacle for me. Being a dad was always my only dream ... I can't think of anything being more important."
