Katy Perry had hilarious response when daughter called her by her stage name instead of real name

Wednesday night's VMAs were a sight to behold - but the best part of the night was learning that Katy Perry's legal name isn't actually Katy Perry.

Perry won the highest honour of the ceremony, the Video Vanguard Award, and her fiancé Orlando Bloom presented it to her.

He said: "You fell in love with her as Katy Perry, I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson.

"You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light and her unique sense of humour into every song she writes and every music video she creates.

"I know her as a mother, as a partner who brings that same sense of love and joy to our family."

He continued: "She loves with her whole heart and it’s kind of irresistible. Congratulations on this honour baby, I’m so proud of you."

So cute.

Perry and Bloom share a four year old daughter, Daisy Dove, and the popstar had a very funny response to her little one calling her by her stage name.

Speaking on HSN's The List with Debbie D, the singer revealed: "[Daisy] called me Katy Perry yesterday.

"I was like 'Uh uh girl, I'm mama to you.' She's like, 'You're also Katy Perry'. I'm like, 'Uh uh. I'm mama. Don't you call me Katy Perry, I'm mama!'"

Carrying on speaking about the little tot, Katy continued: "I care about whatever she wants to do. No pressure. Just whatever makes her happy.

"She'll probably be artistic in some way. She's gonna be a leader."

She also spoke about what inspired Daisy's sweet name, sharing: "I like the alliteration of the DD.

"But Dove is peace, I want her to be a peace maker. Even though she is just wild and fun and crazy, I just think there's a peace that I want to surround her [with] and for her exude."

After Perry accepted her Video Vanguard Award, she took the time to thank her fans and family for the years of support.

She said on the VMAs stage: "Thank you so much to MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one. There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decades-long accidents.

"My Katy Cats, you stood by me for a lifetime and the LGBTQ community who I recognise I would not be here without.

"You showed me that you can be both kind and snatched. Thank you to Orlando for keeping me grounded, celebrated and doing the dishes. And lastly, for my Daisy, the only flower I'll ever need."
