Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez make one request for wedding guests and people are seriously shocked

The Amazon founder and the American journalist are expected to say 'I do' in Venice this week

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez have made one ‘request’ for their wedding guests as the alleged invitation to their lavish nuptials ‘leaks’ online.

It’s believed that this weekend, Amazon founder Bezos will finally marry his long-term partner, American journalist Sánchez, in what some people are dubbing the ‘wedding of the century’.

The 61-year-old, who has been in a relationship with his fiancée for five years, has already been spotted out and about in Venice, Italy, by photographers ahead of the programme - despite there being protests against the event taking place by locals.

Most of the details regarding the ceremony - including date, place, and star-studded guest list - remain a mystery to the public, though it has been confirmed that the venue has been changed due to security concerns.

This is the second time that Bezos will have said ‘I do’, having married his first wife, MacKenzie Scott, 55, in 1993. The pair, who divorced in 2019, share four children together.

It will also be Sánchez’s second marriage, having legally paired with American businessman Patrick Whitesell, 60, back in 2005. The duo, who are parents to three children, divorced in the same year as Bezos and Scott.

Ahead of the big day, ABC News has allegedly obtained an invitation that the couple have sent to their famous friends.

The leaked letter surprisingly claims that neither party want their loved ones to put their hands in their pockets this summer as they’ve said ‘no’ to wedding gifts.

Instead, the pair will be making contributions to various institutions in their guests’ honour.

“We are excited for you to join us! We have one early request: please, no gifts,” the shared invite begins.

“Instead, we're making contributions in your honour and with gratitude to you for making the journey to celebrate with us in Venice.”

Upon hearing that Bezos and his bride-to-be are declining gifts, X users have been having their say.

One typed: “Imagine being so rich your invite just says please, no gifts because what could you possibly need?” as a second remarked: “Just a fancy way of saying don’t bring trash.”

“Gifts are the worst,” agreed someone else. “No gifts unless specifically requested, or otherwise known.”

Another said: “Jeff said he’s rich enough and doesn’t need any gifts.”

Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding invite has also listed the three places they will be donating funds too on behalf of their loved ones.

The first is the UNESCO Venice Office, with the couple claiming their money will help UNESCO to safeguard the Italian city’s ‘irreplaceable cultural heritage’.

The second is the Consortium for Coordination of Research Activities (CORILA), with money going into restoring the ‘lagoon habitats [to] protect Venice's future’.

The Venice International University is also due to receive a donation from the famous pair. This is so that the institution may continue supporting ‘research and education for sustainable solutions.’

"This magical place has gifted us unforgettable memories. Our hope is that through these efforts and by you joining us, Venice will continue to inspire wonder for generations to come,” the letter added.
