A lip reader has revealed what Jay-Z apparently said when he whispered in Beyoncé's ear after her Best Country Album win at the Grammys.

The 2025 Grammy Awards has seen only good things for the singer, who also took home Album of the Year (finally) and Best Country Duo/Group Performance respectively.

When Beyoncé accepted her award on Sunday night (2 February), people couldn’t stop thinking about the moment just before she took to the stage, which saw her looking like a deer in the headlights when her name was called.

However, when her husband and song collaborator, Jay-Z, leaned in to whisper into her ear, the curiosity of fans was piqued.

Viewers at home speculated that he told her 'that the underwire of her bra was showing before she went on stage'.

While this is a great guess, considering the singer promptly rearranged the top of her dress immediately afterwards before being seen with her underwire poking into her chest on stage, is it true?

Thankfully, lip reader NJ Hickling has appeared to answer the question.

They told The Mirror that Jay-Z allegedly said: “Woah woah woah. Bout time! You’re a top girl.”

According to the lip reader, he was simply encouraging and recognising the work his wife had done on her album and knew she deserved to win.

During Beyoncé's speech, viewers could clearly see the emotion on her face and hear it in her voice.

"Wow I really was not expecting this," the star said. "I want to thank God, oh my God, that I'm able to still do what I love after so many years."

Meanwhile, Jay-Z watched her adoringly as she added: "I'd like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists.

“And I just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about, and to say, 'stay persistent.'"

Wile you might expect someone as famous as Beyoncé to expect to win in any category she’s nominated for, it appeared to come as a complete shock to her.

In a viral video, she was caught saying by lipreader Jeremy Freeman: "Oh my God? I had no idea! What do I..."

He then said that she turned her back, and may have finished the sentence by saying the words 'say' or ‘do’.

Darren Stanton, a body language expert, confirmed that her ‘shock, surprise and disbelief’ at having won in the country genre, and told Betfair Slots: "She was a statue for a second, like a deer in the headlights. There was real genuine surprise."

While one social media user wrote: "Beyonce STILL get so nervous on camera when she isnt performing + I think its an incredibly human trait that we all get to witness. Not bc nervousness is/feels good , but bc this world needs to let her breathe + just be in a moment however she shows up as."

LADbible Group has contacted representatives for Jay-Z and Beyoncé for comment.

How many Grammys has Beyoncé won?

Beyoncé is the most awarded artist in Grammy history, with 35 Grammy wins and 99 nominations since first being nominated in 2000 with Destiny's Child.
