George and Amal Clooney forced to evacuate southern France home with their twins following wildfires

George and Amal Clooney have sent an emotional letter to the Mayor of Brignoles after evacuating their southern France home during the ongoing wildfires.

The Hollywood actor, 65, and his wife, 48, purchased their farm estate in the town in 2021, making it their primary residence where they live with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.

Brignoles is in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France, which is one of the areas where devastating wildfires are spreading across the country, as well as other European countries like Spain, Italy and Greece.

As reported by PEOPLE Magazine, the A-list couple revealed they have ‘no idea’ whether their home has ‘made it,’ as they pledged their dedication and love to the local community.

Addressing Mayor Didier Brémond directly, the actor wrote in a letter: “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment.”

“As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise two things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe, and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”

Riviera Radio reports that the fast-moving wildfire has burned through 100 hectares near Brignoles, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate, with firefighters attempting to secure the area.

As per Fox News, around 3,000 people were evacuated from around the town; meanwhile, as of Wednesday (29 July), a second uncontained wildfire four times the size of Paris was burning across southwestern France.

In December 2025, George and Amal were officially awarded French citizenship, with the mayor outlining that the decision was due to their ‘love for our country’.

The French Government added that 'they contribute, through their distinguished actions, to France's international influence and cultural outreach’.

As per the BBC, he told broadcaster BFMTV that the Clooneys are ‘a very simple and very accessible family’.

The mayor added: "Here, he wants to live normally, and that's what he is trying to do.”

Meanwhile, Clooney told Esquire Magazine in October: "I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood."

He explained: “I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
