Emma Roberts’ dad Eric addresses missing her wedding to Cody John

Eric Roberts has broken his silence on missing his daughter Emma’s wedding over the weekend.

The 35-year-old American actress, best known for her roles in the likes of American Horror Story and Scream Queens, tied the knot with her partner Cody John on Saturday (25 July) in an intimate Idaho ceremony, after four years of dating.

However, as mentioned, one person was missing - Emma’s 70-year-old actor father.

He has since issued a statement to Page Six confirming that he was not there for the big day, after he was seen leaving a Los Angeles gym on Sunday (26 July).

Eric said: “I love my daughter, always have, always will. It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”

The publication obtained exclusive snaps of the star-studded wedding ceremony, which reportedly lasted 45 minutes.

Adorably, Emma was walked down the aisle by her five-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she shares with her ex Garrett Hedlund.

She wore a Monique Lhullier dress, long veil and matching headband, while the groom opted for a classic black tuxedo.

Eric welcomed Emma in 1991 with his former partner Kelly Cunningham, before he later went on to marry casting director Eliza Garrett in 1992.

However, shortly after Emma's birth, he lost custody of her due to past struggles with drug addiction.

He recently addressed his relationship with his daughter on the Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson podcast and dismissed the suggestions that they’re estranged.

When asked if things between the pair are complicated, he responded with: “Not really. It's only complicated through outside eyes because they don't get any of it, so they have their own take, whatever that is."

He also opened up about the struggles he faced after his daughter was born.

The Dark Knight actor explained: "I was not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever because I was a car wreck. I was a car wreck because of many things, but I take full responsibility for it.”

The star candidly delved into the subject in his 2024 memoir, Runaway Train: Or, the Story of My Life So Far.

He wrote: “I loved my little daughter with the strength of Hercules, despite my own weaknesses.

“However, I couldn’t handle the realities of an infant coming into my life, and I couldn’t handle being a parent! I’m still not a father figure.”

Like Emma and her father, Cody John is also an actor, having starred in TV shows such as Wu-Tang: An American Saga, In the Dark, The Rookie as well as movies including Jaunt.

His romance began with Emma in 2022 after they reportedly met through friends in the industry, a source close to the actress told E! News at the time.

Two years later, in July 2024, the pair announced their engagement with a flashy engagement ring photo, alongside the caption: “Putting this here before my mom tells everyone."

And the rest is history!
