Netflix's new film Pieces of a Woman debuted on the streamer on Friday and it has had a profound impact on those who have watched it so far.
The film is a gripping and realistic drama starring Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf as a married couple who are set to become parents.
When the home birth ends in an unfathomable tragedy, Martha (played by Vanessa Kirby) begins a year-long odyssey of mourning the death of the couple's baby that fractures relationships with their loved ones.
At the start of the film, viewers see Martha give birth during a one-take, 24 minute scene showing Martha give birth and the traumatic death of their baby daughter.
The film's cinematographer, Benjamin Loeb recently discussed the opening scene with Movie Maker.
"Through numerous conversations, touching on our own personal experiences at the births of our own children, we decided that the right approach was to aim for a single take that compressed and expanded time without cuts," he said.
Viewers took to Twitter to discuss the film and to praise Vanessa Kirby's performance.
One woman said: "This home birth scene in Pieces of A Woman is painful to watch. I really don't know how y'all do it omg".
Another woman added: "the birth scene in pieces of a woman...I have never been more Stressed, really really well done."
"Birth scene long shot hit diffErent in pieces of a woman idk what to do with myself," shared a third.
