American Idol star quits show after 'bully' Katy Perry's 'hurtful' remark

Sara Beth Liebe shocked judges by quitting American Idol following her bust-up with Katy Perry

A woman who people said was 'mom-shamed' by Katy Petty has quit American Idol.

Mum Sara Beth Liebe, impressed judges with her powerful voice when she performed for the 'Fireworks' singer and fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

At the time, the panel remarked on the 25-year-old's youthful appearance, saying that she didn't look old enough to be a mum.

After learning that she had three kids of her own, Katy stood up out of her seat, prompting Sara to joke: ”If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out.”

The popstar then shot back: “Honey, you been laying on the table too much.”

Her comments were obviously not well-received by Sara, who said that she felt 'embarrassed' and was 'hurt' by the incident.

In a clip, Sara explained: “At the start of my audition, before I sang, I mentioned that I had three children and was a young mother and Katy Perry made a joke - that wasn’t super kind.

"I don’t really have too much to say on my feelings about it because I feel like it’s probably pretty self-explanatory.

"I mean, it was embarrassing to have that on TV and it was hurtful and, you know, that’s that.

“But I did want to take this opportunity to just say that I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mum shaming is super lame. And I think that it’s hard enough to be a mum and it’s hard enough to be a woman.”

She added: “I see all of the young mums and just mums in general who have commented on all of the videos and posts and everything and I just wanted to say that I see you and I hear you and I am grateful for you and you’re worthy and keep loving your babies.

“And I think that if you’re a good mama and you love your babies that’s all that really matters and other comments just don’t feel necessary and yeah that’s all I have to say on the matter.”

Well, despite going on to make it through, Sara has now quit the show.

Returning for the first round of Hollywood Week, the young mother announced that she wanted to go home to her babies.

She also told one of the producers backstage: "I feel like I’m not gonna win the show anyway, so I might as well go home.”

After hearing the news, Katy brought Sara back out on stage, telling her that she thought she was really talented, and urged her to not give up.

She said: "I know you love your family, your kids; I know that as a mother. But self-love is just as big as motherly love. Don’t leave the competition.”

The judges then announced that they were putting Sara through to the next round, along with several other contestants, and it seemed as if they had managed to persuade her to carry on.

However, despite telling Katy that she 'appreciated' her, she said that she still wanted to quit.

While not citing her previous bust-up with Katy, Sara said: "I still kind of want to get home. I am sure when I get home, I will regret it and be like, ‘Man, you should have stayed'."
